Brazil 2008 - BMW greatest losers?

Looks like both of the BMW drivers have been demoted one position down after the penultimate round.

Mario Theissen must have been very over confident and assumed that none of their positions would change [-X

Had he been right or wrong would be seen next year. If they would be able to raise the game another level and come into serious on-track battle for title, I'd say he was right.

OTOH, it well may be a bad luck - two races that didn't suit their chassis (they had struggled at some tracks before).

it is unfortunate for the drivers but it has little material effect on the money. for public perception the drivers title is the most important, but who is third or fourth is of very little consequence.

BMW have secured third i the constructors and that was their aim together with winning a race. next year they want to fight for the championship. I guess they had to take some difficult decisions to make that happen.

Well theres also the small matter of chasing an extra $50 mil USD in sponsorship as the parent company isnt going to cough up for the extra greenbacks - that's integral to next years budget WB or had you missed that - now thats not pin money thats a serious chunk.

Kubica could have a shot of winning Brazil if he had pitted at the last safety car lap for slicks and full tanks. Why did he start from the pit lane unless he was gonna take a chance on slicks?

I just dont get the strategy Kubica and his engineers had in Brazil.
Okey, they took a gamble and started on slicks, it dident pay off on the warm op lap.
Then, why did they change back to inters ?? Why not let Kubica miss the start, but then force his way up, when the track was drying, and the others were either strugling on inters, or diving into the pits to change them ?
The track was obviously drying, and no rain was about to come down.

I loved to see Kubica pass Hamilton in the rain, but when he is a lap down.. .

As Peter Sauber said, it has been the best season for the team in its entire history and this was achieved without compromising anything for next year. If KERS has an influence - and I believe it will - the main battle of the last weeks was in the FOTA where Montezemolo and others tried to shoot down KERS. BMW managed to keep it on the regs and I hope they will reap the rewards next season. I have said it in other threads, Renault and Ferrari with the Magneti Marelli KERS are in trouble. They will have a mountain to climb. Alonso will not even bother to test this year as they will not have anything new on track for two months.
