I hope it's not the case, but I have the feeling RBR ran higher engine-modes than Merc and Fer today. Come Saturday the gap will (unfortunately) significantly decrease or will be behind Merc and Fer.
Per my last comment, it will indeed be interesting if the gap closes tomorrow considering RBR/Honda saying they want to run spec4 more on Fridays and that other manufacturers might run older relative specifications in comparison.

It would make sense if they are trying to validate the Spec4 and understand it’s behavior at a higher power rate.

In addition, the rest of the teams are probably using Specs1-2 in FP1 to save mileage on their latest Specs.

Max is wondering if it was best if he had taken a penalty in Singapore Rbr has wrong idea about their car and engine don't get credits everyone take it for granted that Redbull will always build great chassis and assume that's true. Sochi is a carbon copy of Austria track 90 degree turns and straights a track Redbull won
If they are fast enough here, 5 place will not make them loose I think.

Well, he then has to overtake everybody that matters.

But If they even come in that position I would be very happy.

In Austria Max was on the back foot after the disastrous start, and he won. Why not again? Let's stay positive, at least there are good signs for now

It's a shame that VES should change engine on this track then :?

I think pole and fight for victory was really a possibility.
Starting 5 places down it might me difficult to have more than a podium

I have no doubt that those that have one available (an FP1-FP2) engine and gearbox that is what they are using on Fridays and not the race units.

Yeah, the choices for penalties are a bit unlucky. With hindsight Spa was better to take the penalty, instead of Monza. Who knows what happens this weekend. Poletime on saturday or a win from P8 on sunday. Hell maybe Japan will be a dissaster...

"The last sector has been going very well all day," Max Verstappen said afterwards and can be read on his official website.

“If you have a good feeling with the car, then the car comes to life in the last sector, which is very positive, especially after Singapore where we had a hard time. We have made good changes to the set-up here. ....

Yet Verstappen is not terribly disappointed by the grid penalty.

"No, not at all," said Verstappen, who may also hope for rain.

"Let's see it," said Verstappen about the weather forecasts. “Hopefully the car will work well even in the rain. If we look at today it was very positive, so hopefully tomorrow too.”

The 2 wons of Max was after a disasteous starts, so if he had a not soo good start I will see it as a positive sign that he can win the race. 😀😀😀

Thanks to @tonisokolov1011.
Albon did no longrun due to floor damage. Long time in the garage. :(
