Well, you're talking about sponsoring the slowest team on the grid. Petrobras also sponsored Williams in the past for less, it doesn't say that much.
Good point there, but from reports I've seen recently, Kubica is keen on doing FP's with a possibility of a 2021 drive. I can't see that happening with McLaren, even for just FP's. It would be great if they can strike a deal with a company like, Chevron, without needing to use their products. But then again, any deal that would make up for the shortfall would be great, not necessarily an oil company.
