Let's not forget, weekends like Mexico are incredibly important for the team's future prospects since they emphasize underlying weaknesses. With 4th place in WCC pretty much in the bag, they can and are taking more risks to exploit further handicaps. For instance, their pit-stops are on somewhat of a steep curve given where they were in recent years and the car's relatively unpredictable nature is already a point of focus on the Mcl-35's development direction. There are plenty of other obscurities in various other processes such as setup direction and tyre management as well. A new & energized cohort like Zak's Mclaren is probably relishing the odd disastrous weekend so that their drawbacks are accentuated.

According to further reports an agreement for Lukoil to replace Petrobras has failed....

I hope McLaren only takes a sponsorship deal with a petrol company. There is no need to reinvent the wheel. If Petronas is good enough for Mercedes then McLaren should move to them in 2021.

yes, more or less comparable to Sainz' - a bit slower, but that was basically the case all weekend

The Lukoil deal is probably going to happen just an agreement wasnt made. Give both sides some time

Probably no. Our media write that the parties could not agree, and McLaren will have to look for a new fuel supplier.

I hope no politics were involved, everything is becoming political these days....anyway... so far Zak's record for bringing sponsors to the team is solid so I trust in his ability to find proper substitution

Lukoil is a private company, politics can be excluded. Most likely they did not agree on the price.

They don't need a oil deal. After all they're just gonna buy the same fuel that Merc does. So they can replace them with anybody.

Yep, all they need is a replacement sponsor on the level of Petrobras, to ensure there’s no drop in cash coming in for development. Could be from telecoms, banking, tech etc.
Q: (Stefano Mancini – La Stampa) Kimi, will you help Vettel to win his championship this year?
Kimi Raikkonen: I can only drive one car, obviously.
