Well, it’s a shame because I’d like him to do the crown, but this is the perfect example of the fallout from the destructive side of his personality, and why he’s never achieved what his natural talent deserved due to his sometimes poisonous actions. Had he conducted himself better in public, he’d have that drive.

Criticism can be beneficial or harmful.
I don't share the idea that Alonso criticisms helped Honda have a good engine.

Honda was ready to leave F1 in 2018 (search online). So they can't say the reviews helped because they did the opposite. And from the development of the engine, they would arrive sooner or later at a good level.
The people who saved the Honda F1 project were Franz Tost and Helmut Marko. Using the TR as a test car.

I think the same as @Jambier. The main problem is that Alonso is Toyota ambassador
True visionaries. Nobody in 2017 wanted to even touch Honda with a stick. Remember Alonso also saying he felt sorry for TR and their drivers. Not many people had confidence in their decision. We're everybody else saw hopelessness the RBR group saw opportunity. Credit to RBR managment.
That said it would have been nice see Alonso in a competitive Indy car. Even though I am not an Indy follower, the 2017 race got me started. I wonder if the apology came in hopes of Honda agreeing however the problem with the apology was that he included a "but"
Exactly and when STR and Tost actually got the PU from Honda, he said he was surprised by how much negativity surrounded it, he said it was far better than what was portrayed in the media and even then was the most compact and tidy unit he's seen.

At the risk of talking about this.. again, a lot of negativity was created around the breakup and Honda had its downsides but McLaren did not help them at all, denying requests for space, pretty much forcefully requesting x dimensions etc. Any negative response from Honda would just cause McLaren to publicly slaughter them.

Sauber signed a contract with Honda before Ferrari bought that team so to say nobody wanted to touch that pu is to lie.Rbr has been wanting to dump Renault since 2014 so Honda was always an option but vetoed by Ron Dennis.
Ron Dennis was the true visionary he bought Honda to f1 and had a ten year master plan but getting fired derailed his plan and exposed Honda to people who have been against the deal from the beginning.

Sauber also broke the contract when Vassuer entered and Monisha left, because of concerns then McLaren were wanting out and Sauber will be left without gearbox and ancillary parts. This was 6 months before alfa deal. So in the end they did want to touch Honda. And did Ferrari really buy Sauber?I though it was just a title sponsor, technical collaboration, naming rights with option to buy.
Agree about Ron though

Redbull used their ex gearbox which is designed for Renault pu by adapting it to honda pu.
McLaren would not give gb for free to sauber so they can buy a gearbox from one of other teams or can buy from xtrac etc. So that is what said by new sauber boss for defending sauber return from Honda deal when asked him about it. but it was not a sincere answer. If you can not adapt a gearbox to a pu how can you be a formula 1 team

They can if they have their version of "rear steering ", slow speed corners is where they are lacking compared to Mercedes. Mercedes also have to make their car less draggy they is a chance they may get it wrong

Indeed. If you look at 2019 Barcelona quali sector times Mercedes gained 0.5s compared to 2018 in S3 while most other teams did not improve in the twisty s3. RB even lost 0.2s in s3 compared to 2018.

Yes, you're right. But it goes to show most that Mercedes gained half a second in s3 from 2018 -> 2019 while most other teams remained the same more or less.

IHI technical partnership has ended? They've been removed from Honda F1's website.

In-house turbocharger now. The wheels have been optimized, and the centre section is done by Honda-Jet. No more need for IHI?

What @Bill says is correct.

November 13, 2018

The Japanese have been working with IHI since the Formula 1 return in 2015, but now cooperation has intensified
in an effort to accelerate development.
The deal is for two years and the first results of the closer cooperation will be visible in the 2019 engine.

Seems to be the case. iirc, from an old interview, Asaki said they did the casing and IHI the blades.
