The Sidepod shape is very weird. It's not really exactly like Mercedes's last year, but I am assuming they are trying to achieve the same thing. Instead of "sending" the air around the sidepod to the rear-end, perhaps it is better to make a straight path for it over the sidepod, since the air probably loses less energy this way? Interesting concept, let's see how it turns out.

Look at the RB9 - apart from it having the coanda exhaust at the end, the RB16 sidepods look like an evolved version of that - it's what they were using to great effect until 2014.

First thing I thought of when I saw the "Crease" over the top of the sidepod leading toward the rear/floor.

Judging from all the big and little changes on the car from the Cape, narrow nose, Merc/RBR side pods and lower rake angle to the Arrows/RBR nose tip I think they have been learning and holding back alot of stuff and spending alot of cfd/wind tunnel time to make a full on assault on the championship this year.
IMHO that's why max agreed to the contract extension.

On the RB15 some of the rear wheel was covered by the body work. On the RB16 you can see all of the tire and some of the floor, clearly much tighter packaging this year.

Seems like they liked the shape of the engine cover on the RB9 back then.

more tight for sure, but not day an night. Looks to me like the outer part, "Shoulders" of the sidepod the ramp has been extended a bit, not as aggressive as last year, while the inner part closer to the center, they made the ramp more aggressive

The RB16 seems to have some VERY solid looking uprights at both the front and back. RBR planning on Max doing quite a lot of bumping this year.

The rear suspension pick up point is much higher.
Side pods look larger in side profile to me.
