McLaren MCL35

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Gary Anderson is somewhat disappointed 🙄

Q: (Stefano Mancini – La Stampa) Kimi, will you help Vettel to win his championship this year?
Kimi Raikkonen: I can only drive one car, obviously.

article on formula1.com reads like filming day on the way
"Often it is unclear what spec of car a team unveils at their launch, but with McLaren this year, the MCL35 was the real deal. It broke cover for the first time internally on Wednesday, was revealed publicly the next day and within hours of the event finishing, the orange and blue machine was on its way to Barcelona in time for their filming day."

Good find! That's definitely a glue on replacement. Either the real tip was damaged or they're hiding something. Given how sophisticated they were in this area last year, I'm guessing the latter. The nose tip is there however only to satisfy the regulations, so perhaps the tip isn't an important part of the crash structure.

We have to be careful with some of the pictures... Last year’s pictures were renders, therefore things like rake weren’t the same as in the actual car...

Interesting that the MCL35 appears to have the smallest sharkfin of the cars shown so far.

havent they been using that area for cooling for sometime?
the rb sharkfin is smallish as well and also cooling along the spine of the car.
the ferrari sharkin looks larger and more tightly packed b/c they dont really run coolers up there.

Gary Anderson really isn't to be taken seriously half the time.

on another note, am quietly happy. Let's see what she does in terms of lap times. Many a car looked like a dog's breakfast but was fast all the same.

The coke bottle is crazy undercut near the exhausts. Reminds me a bit of the F138 Ferrari when they had a wide “waist” near the back but undercut aggressively below it. Albeit back then those were for the coanda exhausts

To be fair - with all due respect to the man - Gary has been impressed with many duds and disappointed with many world beaters.

Not sure his eyeball CFD is really as effective 😅
