I love how the car looks =D>

I'm afraid I will be sad at Melbourne, with slow car, and bad livery.

But anyway, at least we know we shouldn't expect too much as they are focusing on 2021.

Let's hope to do at leat a decent year, being in points regularely, and finish P5

Cyril Abiteboul:
"This year we decided to take a bit of a different approach. The regulations are stable, so it was offering a fantastic opportunity to keep some elements of the car that have no direct responsibility towards the performance of the car," he said.

"It doesn't mean that it is the same car - it would not look very attractive. But what we have decided to do is focus on performance areas and by doing that, you also work towards 2021.

"If you can be focused on 2020 then you have some extra capacity available for 2021. That is the logic behind what we have done - whether it works or not let's see in Melbourne on the Saturday."

What Abiteboul said doesn't seem to make sense. :?:

What I assume he means is that Renault will focus on performance areas that can be carried over to 2021, like the nose and packaging? Now that makes a lot of sense.

For me he simply means that they kept 2019 car and fix on it the flaws it had.
That it was possible with a identical regulation to keep last year car

So they can have free time to work on the 2021 one

Great stuff! Ocon seems very happy. :D
I've never went that fast in some corners before, so it feels good. It's definitely exciting. Because that's just going to go faster and faster. So we're going to probably break all the records of laptimes I reckon this year.

It's a good base that we are having at the moment. Sometimes when you step in cars and you think ah, there is an issue that you're trying to solve for the whole winter, there isn't any kind of that at the moment.

Yes it’s really good looking. On the performance it looks quite balanced and not too unstable

I’m surprised with this first week.

Overall a very good week for Renault.

I know I should not expect too much but the car seems decent

They did have a few technical issues, but on the whole, they do seem at least to have kept up, more or less, with the head of the midfield/their customer. Would have been good to see a big step, but I don't really think many would have expected that.

So I did a quick comparison of the races sim of Ricc VS Sainz, data from:

Image

The Mclaren is faster on their first stint despite being on the C1 vs C2 for Ricc.
They both boxed on lap 44.
In the last stint the Renault looks faster.

Take those comparisons with a pinch of salt, as we don't know fuel loads, engine modes, use of DRS, etc.

My take on it: the Mclaren seems to be a bit faster, but the difference might be very slim. Renault is in the fight for 4th.
This season is going to be very interesting in the midfield.

Let's wait next week to have a better view of their raw pace !

I guess that's good if true.

What happened to the goal of pulling away from the midfield and closing the gap to top three teams? :wtf:

I don't believe it was in Renault's plans to have to fight tooth and nail with McLaren and others. :|

No doubt they are in amongst the pack and not pulling away - im more concerned with the car's ability to perform over 1 lap. So often last year when it came to quali they couldnt switch the car 'on' even if race pace was pretty good they were too far back in the pack. If they have a car that can deliver a good 1 lap sort of pace when needed im happy..
