I’m kind of worried about racing point this season, their new car is literally last years merc

I doubt it is a straight copy. I wouldn't worry in any case, copy cat cars are usually not very good or everyone would do it. If Torro Rosso couldn't pull it off with a willing parent team, I doubt Racing Point can.

Yes, we have last years Ferrari (Haas), last years RedBull (AT) and last years Merc (BTW RP) against us for the start of the season, but I believe in Mclaren

so 4 Ferrari's, 4 Rebulls & now 4 Mercedes too... its a shame F1 let things descend to this farcical state

Fortunately a good F1 car depends on a lot more than what it looks like, it has to work as 1 too

The S3 times are pretty good for just the 1st hour of testing and with Medium compound in a relatively long stint

Convergence was ultimately going to get the cars to look pretty similar... And can’t blame the likes of Racing Point, why not try and copy the best car of last season if you can?

Thank you very much for that info.
So a minor and simple comparison to the best sector times last year with their current best sector times:
Sector 1: +0.575
Sector 2: +0.391
Sector 3: +0.168

I assume they ran the qualy mode sometime during testing last year and it is save to say they haven't even powered up one bit after 1 hour of testing this year. But, on the other hand a higher power output does not affect S3 as much as it effects S1. Still, already only one tenth up to their best S3 time last year is promising! I hope it bodes well for their low-speed cornering.
