Ferrari SF1000

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Vettel's purple S3 time (26.015) was done either on the Yellow or the White tires as these were the tires he used all morning long...i'm not sure which though, probably on the Yellow Soft ones!

When comparing it to Bottas's Pole lap from last year on the Red soft tires the time looks really impressive!
Bottas 2019 Pole S3: 25.878
Vettel 2019 Quali S3: 26.611
Vettel 2020 Test S3: 26.015

That shows 2 things:
1. Ferrari is hiding a lot of speed!
2. They've found a lot of downforce during the winter and improved their low speed traction which was a problem IIRC last year!! =D>
Cut the corner, since it wasn't there on the official display at the end of the session. Actual best 26.9
No he didn't cut the corner they said on Sky that it was a valid lap.

No it was clean lap. I saw it on live timeing on F1 app. Vettel best S3 was 26,0. Check up by you self.

It's not on topic, but anyways...
First of all, it's not the case since, as I said, the end-of-session recap by FOM wasn't showing it, but rather a 26.9. On the live timing they don't delete invalid sector times, same goes during the year with track limits in QP sessions. Only the overall laptime is deleted. And I wouldn't trust some incompetent pundits. Second of all, he didn't set it on his best lap (his ideal would then be a low 1:17) and all of Seb's other S3s were around 27.0 or above. So what, was he sandbagging by starting a lap slowly to up his pace at the end? Was he putting in a wonderful S3 in a much-slower-than-usual lap? Or just cutting the chicane. Citing the commentators doesn't sound like a very compelling argument.

The commentators also said nothing of the sort, I've had the testing on all day, someone *wrote in* and asked about that sector being fast and they talked about if it was then it was promising, they never checked to see if it had been deleted or was valid at all, they were just chatting about it.

Regardless, this talk doesn't belong in here.

Dont forget that last seasons spanish GP used the C3 , C2 and C1 tyres. So Bottas Pole lap was done on what is being used as the Yellow tyre today.
I was thinking the same but didn't know where to find the answer!

Thanks...really useful information!
No problem mate. Just providing a fact, even though some muppet felt the need to down vote it as 'bogus logic' it still remain a FACT.

Whaaaaaaaat? Down vote for that?

Probably a Ferrari fan got upset after hearing the truth...

On the SF1000 topic...I was watching F1 TV all day long! The car looks stable but lap times show that it's not fast enough right now! Be it sandbagging or just no speed i don't really know!

From what i heard from the commentators they have correlation issues! Also although the car has gotten much better in slow speed corners it now lacks speed in medium-high speed corners! That shows that downforce is still missing...i expect some updates to come until Friday!

Also it seems strange to me that Ferrari hasn't gone the slim nose route! All the top teams have done so...why not them? Rob Smedley said in the morning that this is because Ferrari haven't made it work with their car...every 2-3 months teams try solutions from other teams just to see if they'll get any better! So for sure they've had a slim nose in the wind tunnel but they didn't get the results they wanted he said!

The car has downforce. LeClerc and Vettel said it has the downforce. The problem they have is balance! And for me this is actually worse than lacking downforce. It means chronic development frustrations throughout the year. The better get on top of this before European leg before they are left a distance third in the champs. Hmm. Actually Racing point is looking a bit nifty...

Wherever you have this from, it's not true. Vettel told the complete opposite.

Also, until today Ferrari have still tried different configurations. They've not gone for optimizing the setup and trying performance runs. Leclerc told that they don't have any major issues.
