Renault F1 R.S. 20

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Did anyone manage to get a helicopter view comparison of the 2019 and 2020 cars to evaluate the “slimming down”?

We have a partially similar photo on page 2 but it isn’t from above.

Not sure what to make of Renault in the first test- I think we will find out much more next week. Ocon and Ricciardo seemed reasonably pleased from their comments.

Was there anything wrong with Ocon today or was he running with 100kg of fuel?? Because he was 1.22-23s which is way off the pace!

I saw a table with the speeds at every corner over at the Testing Thread...Ocon is at the bottom of the table in almost every turn! Ok he must have been running with a lot of fuel!

But then i saw that through the fast Turn 9 both Ocon and Ricciardo were at the bottom of the table! That says a lot...they must be lacking downforce!

There’s a huge number of changes in that comparison, especially the suspension, that’s changed a lot.

Looks like Renault flew under the radar during testing so it’ll be interesting to see how they go in Melbourne.

Cheers Blackout, that’s a pretty good comparison. Rear doesn’t have that sleekness of some of the other teams out there and seems a bit basic. Obviously the front has changed a lot for them.

Melbourne will begin to reveal all!

Nicely done comparison, have to agree ; The 2018 and 2019 cars back halves look virtually the same, this years car is a big tightening of the waistline, so to say.

The overhead shot you posted previously shows dramatically different rear suspension layout too.

Btw it looks promising for the Renault RS20, Danny Ric 3rd fastest on the last day of testing. Only half a tenth of Bottas on the same tire.

Slight different rear wishbone setup - but not much - looks like a different angle upper rear front wishbone- but hard to confirm this. Shame that the gantry blocks the overhead of the front suspension..
