hyundai to buy jaguar

Post

looks like Korean car manufacturer Hyundai is understood to have commissioned a partner to assess the benefits of buying Ford's careworn Formula One team

There is little doubt that energy drink brand Red Bull is closest to the purchase of the Jaguar Racing outfit, but Ford chiefs might favour a rival carmaker, an analyst suggested.

Moreover, Canadian steel company 'Dofasco' is thought also to have expressed interest in Jaguar, based at Milton-Keynes (England)

Well to me probably Red Bull will end up buying the team and finishing the sponsorship deal with Sauber at the end of their contract. A F1 team gives Red Bull the possibility of controling everything and doing what they want....Sponsoring Sauber doesn't give 100% of control to Red Bull...so if Red Bull could control their advertising it would be better for business.

This is surprising. It's been a long time since Hyundai was last mentioned in F1, about a possible entrant. But I hope Red Bull will buy Jaguar, so they could pump more money into the team.

I still have a hard time to beleive that even if it is in a press release....Hyundai is a rival market-wise....usually you don't see it happen that often....rivals exchanging to much information/materials! In Fords case just having someone interested is good.....to me the highest bidder is the winner...

Hyundai to buy Jag..that's the first I have heard of it, but didn't Hyundai get out of WRC due to the high cost? If they were scared off by the cost of WRC competition...

Some info I was able to gather about the Hyundai bid.....Hyundai is still interested in returning to the WRC...the thing is that they'were interested in coming into F1 in 2002.

No one knows how the Hyundai idea came up earlier today, because Hyundai was only interested in Formula 1 with Asiatech support....the idea in 2002 was that Asiatech would supply engines and technical work(development/design work) on the cars....Hyundai would only be a badge and it would subcontract almost everything....so they basicly would be the management side of the team...with Asiatech doing all the technical work.

So now without Asiatech...and WRC being a cheaper way of competition with more similarity with road cars....probably they might have lost the interest.

But in any case they might have changed their minds suddenly.

I doubt that this rumor will come to reality.
