Dakar 2009

Post

Since it was cancelled in 2008 due to a select group of morons. Is anyone else excited to see the race in South America this year?!! I have to say i started watching this race maybe...3 or 4 years ago and refuse to miss a year EVER!

Unfortunately one of my favorite riders, Chris Blais is out with a broken back, but it is also nice to see Jonah Street, and a few other european riders who i enjoy watching as well.

I´m not familiarized with the serie, but I´m happy they will come over here! :P

This is the route they will do:

There is a record of participants for this year edition and believe me, that road will be hard.

I've been following the Dakar for years and am excited about this event. A new location should bring us some great action.

Dakar nowhere near Dakar, doesn't feel quite right - but I'll be in front of the TV anyway.

I absolutely LOVE the Dakar, I have however found myself in the position of not being able to watch it this year. I moved down south for my new job and no longer have a TV let alone sky! I can't ask my parents to record it either as they now have Freesat instead so no Eurosport!

I love it too :D Like Flummo said, it doesn´t feel right this year but it´s better than not having it at all like the last year

Sainz is leading!!! Is this finally the end of Mitsubishi dominance? Of course, it's too soon to tell, but I'd definitely love to see Sainz win it this year.. Also very interesting to see whether it will be the car, luck, or different conditions that will decide the winner this year..(Of course, if Sainz wins, it will be 100% the DRIVER!! :D But with his luck, I 'll wait at least 1 week AFTER the finish before I start celebrating..)

I hope that French rider didn't have a prolonged death! It does show that the Dakar, wherever it goes, is one of the hardest races in the world both mechanically and physically.

I'm finding it really hard to follow Dakar on anything. I can't catch it on SKY and their website is pretty poor for actual Dakar related news and timings. Even the "live" feed isn't all that helpful. The breaking news hasn't been updated since Stage 1
Does anyone know of a good website that gives decent coverage? Just now I'm relying on Eurosport's Dakar page for news. Is this the best I'm going to get?

Are you sure the breaking news hasn't been updated since Stage 1?

In this page the breaking news are updated every 20 minutes at least. Its the same page in posted the link above.

Here in Argentina I get Fox Sports coverage almost all the afternoon. I think they have the exclusive TV rights on the race...

There are two UK drivers (BMW) hurted from a turnover in Stage 1 but I think they are both OK now.

I didn't notice the Stage drop-down selector. I noticed it after comparing your picture to what I had on my screen.
Thank you Belatti!

Well, the action has finished and it was all a real party yesterday with the drivers arriving and taking pictures in the city with the people.
The local hero was Marcos Patronelli who arrived 2nd in the quad class.
In general was a good tough race and the drivers seemed happy and tired.
It was a pity that Carlos Saiz could not arrive afer falling into a 4m dried river in Catamarca province.

Here everyone hopes that there will be a 2010 Dakar!

I think it was successful enough to guarantee a return next year. They definitely have to change the name though, it's ridiculous to keep calling it Dakar and do it in another continent!! Glad finally someone beat Mitsu, though I get the feeling Mitsu were so bored of winning they figured they had nothing to lose by experimenting a bit! Too sad for Carlos though, this man, along with Mark Webber, must be the unluckiest drivers ever to have raced! Here's hoping to a 2010 win for Carlos..

There has been comments arround here that we and Chile will host the 2010 Dakar.
Also, the comment is that there will be longer stages in the north of Chile where, let me tell you, the desert will take its victims. Arround may we will know the route.
