That sort of reads like Ferrari is helping the FIA clamp down on its competitors. :D Hopefully it's fairer in practice than how that sounds like.
FIA already (indirectly) announced that in their official statement before preseason started. Ferrari will help the FIA understand engine tricks in order to prevent them happening.
FIA: I say Ferrari, Mercedes and Honda are doing this, what do you think?
Ferrari: <Ooh, that's a good thing that we haven't thought of and gives more power than we've got!> Yes, FIA, that's illegal.
FIA: Rightio, carry on with your own stuff while we go and shaft your competitors for you.

It appears that Ferrari fans don't have a sense of humour. It's obviously a bit of a joke. Really, lighten up.

Hadn't noticed any obvious jokes being downvoted. If so, that's a bit sad too.

Since you’ve made the joke answering to my post, I felt the need to clarify that it wasn’t me downvoting.
I found it funny, even more when I think that every joke, no matter how little, always contains a tiny bit of actual opinion from the one making the joke. :D

New "we race as one" initiative sticker on the front suspension arms of the 2018 spec SF71 as Ferrari takes to the track in Mugello.

Any ideas on what they could be testing with a 2 year old car on a track which they have no data to compare to?

PG is sometimes well-informed about what is happening there, he has just written that Ferrari can test the 2020 PU management software. I don’t know how they will do it, though.

I believe those tests, much like Mercedes running their 2018 car as well, is just for the drivers (and maybe pitcrew) to shake off the rust.

yep, could be, but why not choose a circuit (like monza) which is going to be in the 2020 calendar and use that outing both to shake off rust and also as data gathering and training for the actual event?

Mugello has been in talks with FIA about hosting a 2nd Italian GP this year... I'm starting to think there is more to it than just 'talks' :)

I'm sure Ferrari is pushing for it to be a reality.

And i don't know how useful data gathered of a dusty Monza, compiled with a 2018 car, would be compared to the mountains they already have.

Mugello on the other hand no team has tested there since 2012...

Mugello is a great track in a gorgeous part of Italy, but I'm not sure it's well suited to F1. The tracks moves all the time and it's certainly not easy to pass there. Turn 1 is likely the only shot on the lap, with that long straight leading into it.

It's an awesome place for MOTOGP though.

So am I right in thinking, they finished pre season testing with the car, upgraded it for Melbourne, the race was cancelled. Since then they have realised the upgrades they added to the car for Melbourne were all wrong, so have taken the car back to Barcelona spec and have taken that to Austria .
