Red Bull RB16

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

That gap between the lower and second lowest plane is a nice way to speed up airflow to that serrated part of the tea-tray. Little details like this is what lead me to believe this car is a winner, shame we have to wait another month or two.

But doesn't every have that?

It's been a while and it's not long now...I just figured out, they changed the rear suspension layout quite a bit. Previously (RB15) the pullrod was in front of the lower wishbone. On the RB16 the pullrod is behind.

Put the pandemic for a few moments aside and enjoy the following RB16-RB15-comparison :D :

looks like they tested two floors, one only with "shark teeth" at the front floor edge, the second they are sprayed all over the rear floor edge also

The rear really drops down at speed. You can see the floor is much closer to parallel with the track than it is in the shot stood in the pits.
If you are more fortunate than others, build a larger table not a taller fence.

I wonder how much development there will be in this area througout the season, as this whole part of the floor will be removed for 2021

These regulations are here for 2021, new regs have been pushed back to 2022

Also noticed that. Also: On top of that, does the rearwing tilt backwards? Almost looks like it when you compare the shot of the car in the pitlane (above) and the photo you quoted.

Nope
Even though the massive rule change delayed to 2022 there are still some changes to the technical regulations for 2021, with a new ban on floor slots and a triangular cutout from the maximum width at the rear face of the cockpit entry template, to 650mm from the car centreline at the rear axle line. The idea being to cut some downforce.

Nice illustration from F1.com - looks like Sauber provided a car.

Yeah just photoshop the floor on the 2nd pic and now the change in colour doesn't make any sense anymore.
