Mercedes W11

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

How are Mercedes able to delay the upshift for 3 seconds?
Article 9.8.4 - The maximum permitted delay for the [upshift] is 80ms from the time of the driver request to the original gear being disengaged.
Brake warmer switch ON? can there be a swtich like that? isnt that iilegal? or is it just a ERS mode?
Essentially it is a preset which enables 'Brake Modifier' to set bias to >75% forwards and displays tyre and brake temperatures on the dashboard display

Merc does get a new fuel for Austria. It's supposed to provide both power and reliability benefits.

At this late stage in PU development, fuels are a huge performance variable, as both Ferrari (with Shell) and RBR (with Exxon) demonstrated on multiple occasions last year.

I think that Brixworth was only shut down for 3 weeks during the down period (as mandated by F1). I know they also produced breathing aid devices. I'm guessing that aside from the mandatory shutdown, the PUs were running on the dynos.
Source for the new fuel? First I've heard of it.

In fact, Mercedes has been pretty mum on upgrades for Austria...
AMuS. Large aero package, too (via AMuS, and confirmed by Allison in recent video by Merc).
Zibby you'll have to link me to the article from AMuS about the fuel. All I have read is a significant aero upgrade. The new fuel was reported by Motorsport.it, which is the equivalent of reading something on the back of a napkin.

Yeah the fuel part was from Motorsport.it. They're hit and miss, but that's the nature of the F1 reporting world. I've seen top-notch reporters get fooled by fake FIA documents and 2x this off-season, Mercedes quit F1.

We'll find out in a few days.

Dutch media reporting major issues in the Mercedes camp - though this remains unconfirmed and no other outlet has run the story.

"An error was found..." What does that even mean? Damage related to the installation process of the PU, hardware design flaw, software?

Whether true or not, it sounds to me like the journalist who received the info wasn't very good at properly deciphering/interpreting it....

It has been debunked by Luke Smith. It's fake news.

Andrew Benson confirms only a reliability upgrade for Mercedes PU.

Dutch media, eh? The Max fan mind games are in full swing already, it seems.

No driver number on the fin. Are they running it in a different place this year?

The drivers numbers were on the fin in the renders they released.

Yes, and the number is on the nose in your earlier photos suggesting the car is "ready to go". Strange. An accidental omission, I wonder?

I think by regulation you have to put the numbers on the fin, so I’m assuming it’ll come later. Bit strange though regardless.

Mercedes is using the one pylon rear wing already tested in Barcelona. Different top wing and less downforce.
