The Renault Pu is not bad at all. The differences on a quali lap are minimal. Sector 1 which is mainly grunt and drag coefficient related. Only Merc was around 0.1s quicker but I think that’s mainly the higher speed carried through corner 1.
What impressed me more is how quick we were through s2 and s3. They really have the high speed aero nailed
Lando has a good chance of jumping Max at the start because of tire advantage (if Max doesn't crash into him). Staying ahead will be there tricky part...

But why our time wasnt better than last year's? Only if Sainz could earn 0.5sec in his last lap. And only mercedes managed to beat last years best time. Lets wait to see race pace now.
What do you mean our time wasn’t better? Last year fastest lap of the MCL34 in quali was a 1.04.099. Now into the 1.03.6. Id say that is a very decent improvement over a short lap
Great result! Car has looked planted and smooth all weekend, which is a good sign moving forward. Realistically it's going to be difficult to hold that position tomorrow, but a good start and some clean air in front could help.
For sporting sake hopefully the RPs have a difficult race and Carlos can jump them.
I was cautiously optimistic before the season. In my opinion copycats can only imitate and not extract the full performance from the car. They will always play catch up. Luckily for them, they had 3 more months to copy Mercedes from preseason test and Melbourne so this is as good as it gets for them. If McLaren brings an upgrade in Silverstone we could make a step ahead of RacingPoint and perhaps even challenge Red Bull.
We shouldn't forget we are a tenth or two down from Verstappen on a track Red Bull did good last year. I know it is a new year but we are in a great spot to continue the move forward. Now imagine if we had the Mercedes engine in the car, I'd say we'd be P3.
