Ferrari SF1000

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

That does look more like a Mercedes wing. Hopefully it works and there are more updates to come.

Vettel is now saying he had brake and suspension (damper) issues during the race.

On the Italian press there was a rumour that the gearbox was not stiff enough torsionally during pre season test and that a reinforced one would be introduced.
The gearbox now is omologated and it is not clear if it is the newer (more rigid) one.
Does anyone have news about it?

No new slim nose?
Wouldn't that require a new frontal crash test?

Looks like they are going for a lower downforce(and drag) front wing to make the rear end less loose and increase top speed.

Classic aero development in our days!

"We will bring a huge update, we will take a whole new development direction"
Updates come...just minor wing changes that apparently have HUGE effect on the car!

Gone are the days of B-spec cars with totally new sidepods, wings and noses!

Anyway...hopefully that's not Ferrari's only aero development, because i don't see them going any higher than 5th fastest car for the next 2 years (2020-2021). And Renault is not far behind...
This is not the "big update", it is just a revision to help the car handle a bit better in austria pt2. Binnoto has long said that they wouldn't get much until at least Hungary.

I find it very hard to believe as well that that nose concept is the better one when all other teams seem to be going towards a slim nose, but then again the actual wing part of the nose can be detached from the nosecone, so maybe they could only fast track the wing and not the nose. We'll see in Hungary, I guess...

btw, I also think that the slimmer noses are more aesthetically pleasing, but hey, if she's quick, she's beautiful 8)
No, Kimi, no. You will not have the drink.

On his onboards the car looked horrible.

Ferrari have been claiming a drag issue from Day 1.No matter their development path change, surely reducing drag would remain on either path. I would have been expecting bodywork changes behind the wing to eliminate drag. New floor if true will affect rear downforce and rear stability but not necessarily improve drag issues right? I hope there's more because I cannot see this unlocking much more potential out of the car.

He also said on the radio that the car was much worst than on FP.

True, i was watching his onboard 10 laps in a row (F1TV). He was sliding into the hard breaking corners 1&2 like on ice. He was all over the place in the infield high speed corners and had to catch his rear almost every lap. Complete mess....
