This is off topic but Fernando Alonso will be back next year with Renault. I'm not sure how many years he will continue to race but would you give him another chance in Mclaren now that we are reaching the top in the next two years?

Personally I would have given him another chance to prove himself with a championship winning car like Mclaren will be in the next two years.

If the team keeps making strides each year it's not crazy to say that they can be a Championship Contender Team in two years.

Nope. He's had his time, McLaren need to look forward. Lando and Danny are an excellent pairing, and will work together as a team. That's what it's all about! Besides, let's not get too punchy on McLaren's prospects, we're still some way off having a championship winning car. Recent progress is not guaranteed to continue at this rate.

It's not really crazy if you think that in 2018 we were 2 seconds off the pace and now the car is only 0.5 to 0.7 seconds off the pace. If they keep making strides it's gonna take 2 more years to have a Championship Winning Car on par with Mercedes. We will soon have a new upgraded latest technology F1 Simulator back at the Paragon who will produce even better cars. It's not really crazy to set up ambitions.

On another note I am glad that the team keeps being humble and work their asses off to obtain that first place at some point.

That's assuming all other cars sit still, which never happens. It's diminishing returns on car development at this stage, hopefully the Mercedes engine can bring us a little closer next year. The 2022 car is a massive unknown with the new spec formula, McLaren could strike it lucky and design a top car, that's definitely possible. It's also possible they make a mistake and end up taking a step backwards, we just don't know.

In terms of ambitions McLaren absolutely want to win the championship, that will never change. We should just temper expectations with a little bit of realism.

Law of diminishing returns will say that the closer they are to the top, the harder it is to actually reach them... I love your optimism, but they are 0.5-0.7 seconds from the front in a very short lap, that’s not a good indication.

First, let’s wait for a few races, after Silverstone we may have a better idea of how far the car is from the front... But regardless, the team won’t be fighting for the WCC next year.

Secondly, in 2 years from now, whichever “strides” they would have made towards the front will be irrelevant, since there will be new regulations and everyone will start from “scratch”

It remains to be seen then. We shal all be here and see if we progress or not. We haven't started well in the rain. Hopefully we can keep evolving doing better and better laps.

Perez out in Q1. Great news for the race. McLaren started slow and cautious, but as they got more laps in they started to become really fast, I guess good traction helps.

Norris hit a bird with his head, hopefully there is a video of it. He says in the McLaren app that he is ok but they need to check the car.

Rain seems to have lowered the difference between Mclaren and the first two teams. Once again our competitors Racing Point and Ferrari flopped. A good opportunity to gain more points and extend the difference.

Could be an indicator that Renault is still down on power, in these heavy conditions the power is less important. Both Renault and McLaren seem to be doing really well.

In any case we must do one last good Q3 and try to extend our point difference from Ferrari, Racing Point and Renault.

P3 for Sainz. Too bad Norris only P6 which means P9 tomorrow. Should be fun to watch.

Very good lap from Sainz. 3rd place and Norris unfortunately will start from 9th but still we are the third fastest team. He should be able to pass some cars during the race.

Great result for the team... Carlos’ first P3 on qualifying in his career... The team with very good chances of having a good race and result on Sunday with the RP’s and the Ferrari’s behind in the grid.

Norris P9 is not a bad result considering that the expectation on dry weather was for him to start probably outside of the top 10 for the race and the car should have enough pace to bring the fight to Ocon and Gasly at least
