Great result indeed, and just like I said yesterday, Checo isn’t great in the wet, with Stroll being even stronger. I’m sure Lando will not only be kicking himself over the penalty, he’ll also be a bit disappointed with his qualifying. Hopefully it’ll put the fire in his belly for tomorrow, which thankfully won’t involve Q2 tyres.SmallSoldier wrote: ↑11 Jul 2020, 16:54Great result for the team... Carlos’ first P3 on qualifying in his career... The team with very good chances of having a good race and result on Sunday with the RP’s and the Ferrari’s behind in the grid.FittingMechanics wrote:P3 for Sainz. Too bad Norris only P6 which means P9 tomorrow. Should be fun to watch.Darth-Piekus wrote: ↑11 Jul 2020, 16:36In any case we must do one last good Q3 and try to extend our point difference from Ferrari, Racing Point and Renault.
Norris P9 is not a bad result considering that the expectation on dry weather was for him to start probably outside of the top 10 for the race and the car should have enough pace to bring the fight to Ocon and Gasly at least

The race will be interesting even before it starts... Strategy will play a big role since some teams may go for an aggressive strategy and start on the Softs to try and get through the field early in the race (we also need to consider that with the track probably very green and with cooler track temps, the Softs may have a bigger advantage over the mediums)... On the other hand, Mediums to go for a long stint and cover for potential Safety Cars in the first half of the race is also a big possibility.proteus wrote:The biggest problem for tomorrow is the first corner and first few laps. Sainz might start better than Verstappen and there is a big chance of entanglement between these two, especially as Verstappen does not understand someone can be faster at particular moment than him.
And if everything goes trough without any problems, then Sainz will lose few positions in first few laps (Bottas, Albon). Hopefully after that he gets his pace good enough to retain 5th. Ferrari and RP will be pushing hard trough the field, so it is cruicial he gets as much space ahead as possible.
And hopefully engine and everything else dont malfunction. Norris will have to perform his magic, maybe he manages to climb himself to 6th.

Strategy will play a key role on Sunday, hoping that Mclaren gets it right!

Ferrari (and the team have Ferrari motor )it would be better on the same logic.FittingMechanics wrote: ↑11 Jul 2020, 16:32Could be an indicator that Renault is still down on power, in these heavy conditions the power is less important. Both Renault and McLaren seem to be doing really well.Darth-Piekus wrote: ↑11 Jul 2020, 16:30Rain seems to have lowered the difference between Mclaren and the first two teams. Once again our competitors Racing Point and Ferrari flopped. A good opportunity to gain more points and extend the difference.
RP qualifying positions couldn’t be better for Mclaren, with such a short season ahead of us, a good collection of points in the initial races could be fundamental towards a good championship positions.Xero wrote:Great result for the team, the car handles very well in those conditions! That's a reflection on what James Key brings to the team in terms of the chassis' mechanical grip and balance. Was a hallmark of his at Toro Rosso, who also ran well in the wet.
Same as last weekend, clean start for Carlos and bring the car home in P5 or higher if the front guys have issues. Lando will have a tough race with the Renaults and Ferraris around him, but should have the pace to see a potential 6th place.
Great to see the RPs way out of the running. Contentious topic, but in the spirit of a prototype constructor championship, long may their misfortune continue.
