Just because RP has shown drawings and such for reverse engineering the W10, and it's legal, doesn't mean they couldn't use Mercs setup data from last year. I mean, if the copy is good enough, the data should transfer completely.
I wondered if any engineers and 'specialists' had moved to RP during the winter too.Zynerji wrote: ↑25 Jul 2020, 18:09Just because RP has shown drawings and such for reverse engineering the W10, and it's legal, doesn't mean they couldn't use Mercs setup data from last year. So, it's not unreasonable to believe that RP has all of Mercs W10 track data from last year. What to do with camber if this is wrong, what to do with toe if that is wrong. Probably full race-winning setup sheets for every track, and post race debrief info with "could have done better if we did this to setup".
The setup data transfer is probably the most under reported part of this situation, as that's always been the reason ppl dont directly copy... They simply dont know how to utilize other people's tools.
RP is doing way too well with someone elses tool to NOT have gotten operating data from Merc.
RP may have "designed" the car, but Merc provided the instruction manual.
Aye aye aye. I fear you vastly underestimate a team of people who's job it is to setup and race F1 cars. Perhaps they are actually quite good at their job and have correlated simulation and wind tunnel data to a good setup out of the box.Zynerji wrote: ↑25 Jul 2020, 18:09Just because RP has shown drawings and such for reverse engineering the W10, and it's legal, doesn't mean they couldn't use Mercs setup data from last year. ...and completely, 100% unnecessary if the legal data transfer took place.yinlad wrote: ↑26 Jul 2020, 11:06Aye aye aye. Of course that would be FAR too reasonable of an explanation.....
considere racing points horrendous wet weather performance in the Styrian GP qualifying as evidence that they dont have Mercs set up data to handNL_Fer wrote: ↑26 Jul 2020, 11:20Enough teams that struggle to setup their own designed car, understanding the car they call it. Also they rely on data from the past and most teams try to improve on a known concept.
RP20 is a completely new car, totally different from their old designs. They needed to calibrate the simulators from scratch, or feed it with some known data.
And I cannot believe a full calibration can be made in a few days testing Barcelona.
Their front suspension at least is completely different internally from that of the W10, so I don’t know how much of the setup data would be applicable if that were the case.Mchamilton wrote: ↑26 Jul 2020, 22:09considere racing points horrendous wet weather performance in the Styrian GP qualifying as evidence that they dont have Mercs set up data to handNL_Fer wrote: ↑26 Jul 2020, 11:20Enough teams that struggle to setup their own designed car, understanding the car they call it. I would assume there could be translation to still get the same effect. If they have a chart of harmonics that they are trying to dampen and the wheel orientation, provided by Mercedes (to keep the aero platform controlled), their layout could still achieve 100% of the same response, even with slight differences of mechanism.ScrewCaptain27 wrote: ↑27 Jul 2020, 12:39Their front suspension at least is completely different internally from that of the W10, so I don’t know how much of the setup data would be applicable if that were the case.Mchamilton wrote: ↑26 Jul 2020, 22:09considere racing points horrendous wet weather performance in the Styrian GP qualifying as evidence that they dont have Mercs set up data to handNL_Fer wrote: ↑26 Jul 2020, 11:20Enough teams that struggle to setup their own designed car, understanding the car they call it.
