McLaren MCL35

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Been looking over photos from Hungary but I'm really struggling to identify any differences. The endplate and it's winglet looks the same, so my guess is it's the strakes underneath that's maybe been tweaked.

That must be what Ivan referred to when he tweeted that he’d had a successful time in the wind tunnel and to look out for some interesting shapes in the next few races 8)
Yes. Confirmed by himself 8)

Ivan confirmed those intersecting shapes are still to come.
https://twitter.com/ivanlda/status/1289 ... 98145?s=19
So he’s saying there’s more interesting shaped developments to be added to the car in the coming races to complement the shapes we’ve already seen on the bardgeboards this weekend?

Translates - Hi Nacho, they are not those, but those precisely also bear my signature 🙂. If it wasn't for the covid-19, those pieces should have hit the track much sooner.

Thank you.
I would interoperate that as there will more interesting shapes to be added later, which is great news.

Without Covid interfering with our lives do we this this aero package was the ‘Barcelona Spec update’?

Morteza posted the update faster than me by 2 seconds :)
Jump start by Morteza, drive through penalty
Its not. Was "inside" imaginary allowed timing. :D Bv yeah really interesting design. Its funny how slowly Mclaren become one of "pretiest" aka Neweyish "elipses" cars. :D

Thanks for posting! That slow-mo of the car coming out of the garage gave a great look at the new parts... Mclaren seems to be innovating in the bargeboard area and that is fantastic!

The fact that they used the new bargeboards in Qualifying indicate that correlation is still on point! That’s excellent news.

the small fw tweaks(footplate) introduced at silverstone, new on the right. They removed the cut/narrowing on the side. Almost look like they, on the old version, where trying to add flow during yaw

McLaren is considering a possible switch to a low-rake concept in the future according to motorsport:

https://www.motorsport.com/f1/news/mcla ... =widget-22

Judging by how well Mercedes is performing, it's pretty bizarre to me how none of the other teams are trying to adapt to that philosophy. I understand it's difficult to switch concepts, but unless Mercedes has a platform that is exceptionally difficult to operate / optimize, I don't see why you shouldn't at least try it out.
