As Technical Partner of Aston Martin Red Bull Racing, ExxonMobil has been putting the off-season time to good use ensuring that test fuels and lubricants are ready to go and blended come the delayed start of the season, as Global Motorsports Technology Manager, David Tsurusaki explains:

“We were well prepared and ready to go for the initial start of the season in March. We had our specially designed fuels and engine oils ready to go and we were confident we had performance to offer the team in Melbourne. We have used the delayed start to build on that, continue to develop our products, and ensure we are fully prepared for this weekend in Austria.

“We’re also fortunate that, as a result of our ongoing efforts alongside our race partners Honda and Aston Martin Red Bull Racing, we have potential new fuel formulations already prepared. We’re in a great place and are eager to see the RB16 competing at the front of the grid,” he added.

ExxonMobil is also unveiling a new trackside laboratory in Aston Martin Red Bull Racing ‘s garage in the paddock’ this weekend. The Tracklab is a state-of-the-art mobile laboratory where ExxonMobil technicians test and monitor Mobil 1 lubricants and Esso Synergy race fuels helping ensure performance and reliability. The Tracklab will monitor used oils throughout the race weekend in Austria and ensure fuel remains consistent quality in order to maintain optimal efficiency & performance.

“The racetrack is the ultimate proving ground and improvements in our ExxonMobil Tracklab make it more efficient with new tests and expanded capacity,” said Tsurusaki. “Racing continues to be an area where ExxonMobil can test new ideas, pushing the performance and efficiency of our fuels and oils, ultimately leading to improvements in the fuels and oils we sell to customers around the world.”

New wheel gun lubricant smooths the way towards perfect pit stops.

The new lubricant’s effectiveness has been visible since the 2020 season got underway, with the Team performing five of the 10 fastest pit stops across the first three races, leading the way with a 1.95s stop for Max at the Styrian Grand Prix.

Considering the margin by which Max beat Bottas, it made a difference! With Yasuaki Asaki in attendance for this week's Red Bull Honda meeting, I wouldn't be surprised if David Tsurusaki or other ExxonMobil personnel are also present to discuss the fuel development plan.

He was right on the limit in his first stint too. The onboard through maggots becketts Etc. Were sketchy. The pressure is on. Not good for the team and for himself.

Hopefully he will get the upgraded package now. He was matching Max before the crash. Both drivers still not happy with the car, understeer galore.
The car turning behaviour appears to fluctuate massively depending on the tyre conditions which begs the question if aero is half the issue.

With the right hydrocarbon additive, the Octane number can be increased, per the RON column. These are the high octane numbered hydrocarbons that cane be added. MTBE and Benzene were the additive used after tetraethyl lead was banned, but these 2 were no better alternatives in term of health hazard, so it was likewise banned. As an example of their use for octane improvement, a regular fuel with 92 RON can be improved to premium 94.5 RON by adding about 5% of Benzene or MTBE .

To what extent is the car balance issue "sorted" compared to previous rounds? The setup for Silverstone requires stiffer wheel rates which will naturally limit chassis motion. Perhaps that's why they're closer here than in previous rounds? Stiffer setup partly masking the instability issues that come from wildly differing ride height due to high rake philosophy?

Rbr still slower than last year.they have reduced rear wing downforce to make car stable but that hurt it in high speed corners.

Car is just not there, how come the ferrari with such hp defeceit are within few tenths. As for Albon, I am his biggest supporter but the guy is not helping his cause, slower than Gasly and now out in Q2 in two races. He better get a top 4 finish tomorrow.
