Because Bernie and Max have been in their positions so long they seem to have lost touch with what the public really want to see and possibly the ideas to make these things happen.
It has taken too long to bring overtaking back to F1. It has taken the OWG (made up of personnel from the leading teams) to come up with realistic ideas to bring overtaking back (hopefully).
What is the point of night races? I, for one, enjoy waking up at silly o'clock to watch races in Australia, Malaysia, Japan etc. Moving these races "for the European market" also moves them for the local viewers from a reasonable 2PM local time to late at night/early in the morning and thus alienating the local fans than giving races to Asia is supposed to bring in.
I think the medal idea is stupid as it means that most of the drivers, who have very little realistic chance of even getting a bronze medal, are just out for a very expensive Sunday drive in a very fast advertising hoarding.
If they want to make a victory more important to winning the driver's championship, why not make the points differential between 1st and 2nd bigger?
I would also like to see points for the fastest lap and most laps lead.
For me, the points structure should be along the lines of:
1st: 20 Points
2nd: 15 Points
3rd: 11 Points
4th: 8 Points
5th: 6 Points
6th: 4 Points
7th: 2 Points
8th: 1 Points
Fastest lap: 3 Points
Most laps lead: 3 Points
With that points structure the top drivers can have a mishap but still make up the gap by pushing for fastest lap (how many fastest laps did Kimi have last season?)but a dominant driver could reinforce their dominance by leading the most laps.
What do you guys think?
