Compared to 2019 Max was in FP1 1.0 sec faster and in FP2 1.7 sec faster.
Until this weekend he was always slower than in 2019.

Didn't see the session but read at the motorsport-total live ticker that VER said after his first lap of FP1 that his front grip was strong. Did they update (visibly) front wing or cape?

Not sure, but Albon had pitot tubes racks mounted behind the front wheels at the start of FP1 and tested 2 different frontwings back to back.

Max time in fp2 is same like his q3 time last year in SPA.
i think all his previous qualy in 2020 is slower than last year until now , thats encouraging at the least
when you talk like that I can't help to stop me expecting a win
hold your dragons, Mercedes still favorite for sure however things could be much closer.
i advice you to neglect the idea of softer tyres is reason , this is genuine progress by RBR just check long pace for Renault...

Don't want to spoil the party, but Max gap is to Bottas, and at some time this week end we could (probably) see Hamilton eek a fer tenths out infront of him. I think the practice has been all about saving tyres so far

If Albon is right there, it may be true that the car improved with the upgrades. Also, we know if they were using the old 1st PU for today? Let's wait until tomorrow, but it's looking better than the other weekends...

Why is it that people who say they don’t want to spoil the party, usually do? Is it something in their lives that always makes them do the opposite of what they Really want? Guess we’ve all been there. You know what would really spoil the party? Mode! No mode. That would spoil the party. Guess we have to wait another week before party’s stand a chance of being spoilt.

Little bit like when I wanted a spoiler on my first car and my father told me it would spoil it. He was right offcourse. Like party spoiling fathers always are. So yes, we’ll accept the lesson and be prepared for a Hamilton getting in there. As is his right.

I'll just crawl back into my hole then

To be serious (which I find hard) I really do hope that not only Max, but alex too, are in the fight.
I do like motor racing, but not with a winner being pulled back but the others catching up.
Lets hope for a good race among at least 6 cars

Alex does seem to be closer. I think that was one of the main reasons for the positivity experienced here.

I was very careful to watch Max onboard from his very first outlap in FP1. On the white-walled hard compound on his first timed lap, you could immediately see that the car was dialed-in from the get-go. I did not see one twitch or correction during the entire lap from him, while also observing Alex on his first timed lap of the opening session where he only made one glaring correction - I think this shows that the team is getting a handle of the balance of the car and making strides in getting the car in the proper operating window. I think it bodes well when you see that your drivers don’t have to wrestle the car out of the gate.

There is something interesting I observed on long runs on F1 live timing. On Sector 1, Mercedes were slightly faster or equal to Max, while Max was using Softs, Bottas on Mediums (on couple of occasions, he was faster by 3 tenths than Max) and Hamilton on hards. Sector 2, Hamilton was fastest with over 4 tenths consistently over Max and Bottas being second fastest. Sector 3, sometimes all three make same times and on couple of laps, Max was fastest by 3 to 4 tenths. So far, Mercedes shows consistent lack of pace in Sector 3, especially on the last chicane where they lose most of that time.
