Ferrari SF1000

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Strange how just a colour change makes it look so different

Is this a new engine cover with bumps on the central area, or it’s just an illusion ? Due to the colour change ?

Another gorgeous hi-res overhead.

I wish they'd stuck with the darker red. It's so much nicer than the "faded red" they run these days. ISTR it was changed for TV but with modern cameras, surely a return to the old red would be a good thing.

I agree with you. I just hoped something new on the car, but I think that they will not bring anything new.
There's meant to be some upgrades coming between now and Sochi but I also read that they're thinking of scrapping them because of the token system (saving them for bigger upgrades next year?). I think Ferrari internally and this car are in such a mess no upgrade rumours can be trusted, it's like they change their minds every week at Maranello. The gearbox issue case in point

Big Red will be bringing many new things to the track this weekend...Bino will have a slew of new reasons why the Ferrari Brass need to have patience for the next few years.

However, this track may allow the 1000 to actually vie for mid pack positions on pace.

I've been a Ferrari fan since I can remember. But I cannot remember any season where they got it that massively wrong.
What me upsets the most is their lack of upgrades. They are running literally the same nose design since 3 to 4 years.
Even smaller teams like McLaren manage to bring nose updates during the season (even if they might not be run during the reminder of the weekend).
That is really a shame imo.

Reminds me of a 'Corgi die cast model I had as a kid. I always thought it was a wrong colour.

I was wondering the same. i don't remember there being those bulges from the air intake down to the pods. The Ferrari was very slim from what I can remember. Unless the matte paint hid them.

Forgive me for my ignorance, but shouldn't a lot of this livery talk be in the 2020 Ferrari Team thread?

It should, but this thread also needs some good news from time til time.

I like this barn-door-brown-reddish. Suits the car.

Don't you remember 1992? The "double floor" car? F-92A? I thought that was the coolest looking thing I had ever seen at the time. Until it started turning laps! What a dog. The aerodynamics of the car just didn't work.

Nah. This sort of color goes back before gold wheels. The color does look fantastic though to my eye.

It's so dark and has so much blue in it! It's almost like venaccia which is a great color offered on their road cars. Much darker/bluer than Rosso Barchetta. It's more like a deepened, darkened rosso Mugello.

Martin Brundle said "It's hard to see on track and on TV" or some such but I don't know what he's talking about. I know Ferrari doesn't like the darker reds based on this but the darker color really makes the white writing on the car pop.

The "1000" decal is terrible and totally classless. They need to get a new graphic designer; keep the painter.

Actually, it did, the car was quite decent in that area, although too much pitch sensitive. Everything else was bad, though: bad engine, bad suspension, bad packaging.
