Re: Guess the circuit

ok final clue (after 6 incorrect guesses, 1 extremely close 1 or you can count as 3), since none of you are asians or indeed japanese or anyone with great interest in japanese motor racing

hmm.. the clue is "anyone seen drift bible?" its the track that tsuchiya show how to drift with understeer/oversteer cars.

the thing is i m really curious to know people's knowledge about drifting and modifyinng street cars(seeing how pro you guy are on racing cars), if you seen a fair amount of drifting videos there should be no problem to pick which track it is. what im really trying to say is that does drifting fasinate you guys the same way it does as say formula 1 cars or racing technology etc. Like how i find some people's extreme dislike of modify cars or rap music, does drifting falls in the same category? that if you are into formula 1 cars that you can not bring yourself to like things about drifting?

sorry i went complete off-topic there, but i seem to appreciate all kinds of things about cars, while the people i know appreciates only 1 aspect of automotive things e.g muscle cars, green technology. Is it just me or im as into formula 1 cars as i think i do?

btw CMSMJ1 its good to know that your not dissing it, but in the spirt of guess the circuit "keep looking up japanese tracks" or "download drift bible" LOL

Re: Guess the circuit

I'm into all sorts of motorsports; F1, NASCAR, IndyCars, WTCC, WRC, MotoGP, historic racing and much more. I absolutely hate it when there are big fights about which class is better ("F1 vs. NASCAR", etc), since I enjoy them all. And while I also love to watch sliding cars (nothing beats a proper four wheel drift), drifting has actually never interested me one bit.

I'm not quite sure why, but I think one important reason is that all other forms of motorsports are about going as fast as possible and winning the race, while drifting is all about the show and doing spectacular tricks. Comparing racing and drifting is a bit like comparing speed skating and figure skating. It's both about cars/skates, but still fundamentally different sports.

I'm not saying that one sport is in any way "better" than another (that would be silly, since it's just a question of taste), I'm just saying that I personally do not enjoy drifting anywhere near as much as I enjoy other forms of motorsports.

IMO, it's more fun with an unusual photo(s) of a well known track, than a photo of track that people of never heard of/never seen before. With the former you kick yourself for not realising the answer sooner when someones else gets it right, with the latter, you wish they'd gotten the answer right yesterday.

I always post F1 tracks past & present, I'm not saying that everyone should as there are some really well known non F1 tracks out there, but the more well known the track the more people on the forum are likely to join in and 'have a go' and keep the game going.

This is just my opinion, and I'll happily go with the flow.

This should be pretty recognisable though....
Can we have none F1 circuits or should we stick to tracks that have hosted an F1 event ? I'm thinking about if someone posts a photo of their local kart track
Again that's where judgement comes in. It doesn't have to be a GP circuit but as long as people are likely to know the track it's ok. So obviously kart tracks that no one knows is dumb and serves no purpose other than to stall the game.

cant say i like to watch drifting much, but the up shot of it being popular is tracks and old airfields letting folks on to play at it, we have and airfield near here that lets you out to drift, which is way better than a track day and much more fun imho. cheaper too

I tried to download the Bible, but I'm not sure if this is the correct version. It seems to have been written by a madman.

Anyway, I think the appropriate part is this (I tried to give here a summary):

Chapter 1

1 In the beginning Tressaguet created the roads made of earth.
2 And earth roads were without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of Racing moved upon the face of the roads.
3 And God said, Let there be Tazio Nuvolari: and there was Tazio Nuvolari.
4 And God saw Tazio racing on earth roads, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness. And God said to F1Technical members: "Follow this link and you'll see the light".
5 And God called the light Racing, and the darkness he called Showmanship. And the evening and the morning were the first day.
6 And God said, Let there be paved roads in the midst of the Earth, and let it divide the roads from the roads.
7 And God made paved roads, and divided the cars that raced over them from the cars that raced over dirt roads: and it was so.
8 And God called the paved roads Heaven. And the evening and the morning were the second day.
9 And God said, Let the race cars that race on any road under the heaven be gathered together unto one place, and let FIA appear: and it was so.
10 And God called those cars, racing cars; and the gathering together of the cars that raced on dirt roads called he Rallying: and God saw that it was good.

...

Chapter 3

1 Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the fans, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not race on every road of the garden?
2 And the racing fans said unto the serpent, We may race on paved roads and we may drift on dirt roads:
3 But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not race by drifting on paved roads, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye lose the race.
4 And the serpent said unto the racing fans, Ye shall not surely lose any race if you create a point system and judges:
5 For God doth know that in the day ye drift everywhere, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.
6 And when the racing fans saw that drifting on paved roads was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a way of racing to be desired to make one wise, they took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto their girlfriends with them; and they did eat.
7 And the eyes of everybody were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed racing suits together, and invented feinting, shakocho and Oni-can.
8 And they heard the voice of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Kunimitsu Takahashi and his fans hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God amongst the trees of the garden.
9 And the LORD God called unto Kunimitsu Takahashi, and said unto him, Where art thou?
10 And he said, I heard thy voice in the garden of Ebisu, and I was afraid, because I was naked; and I hid myself.

NOTE: While I was redacting this, I believe packetman got some divine inspiration. It's good to follow the Book: it makes you humble. Damn, how I hate to be humble! ;)

Tsukuba is a lot more developed (and doesn't have as much greenery IIRC), this track almost looks like a back road.

The drift bible was shot at Ebisu's East Course Image.
