You can use the gearbox to lenghten or shorten the wheelbase which has great impact on the aero and handling of the car.
Chrono Gp says that Mattia Binotto confirmed to them that Ferrari's gonna use their tokens for a gearbox upgrade and a rear suspension upgrade.Sevach wrote: ↑17 Dec 2020, 16:02You can use the gearbox to lenghten or shorten the wheelbase which has great impact on the aero and handling of the car.
In Ferraris case there were also the rumours, never proven correct(or incorrect), that the gearbox flexed a bit, not allowing to maintain consistent suspension geometry.
Thus far Ferrari has said it will apply it's tokens to the rear of the car, not necessarily the gearbox... unless there are some more recent news i haven't heard.
Did Ferrari (or a customer???) not complain of lack of rigidity of the gearbox?
How do you know Ferrari haven't already crash tested a slim nose this year?aleks_ader wrote: ↑13 Dec 2020, 23:26No! Anyway any change needs crashtest. ANd even if they use all tokens for rear. Doesnt matter. Any huge change before 2021 is waste of money and human resorces.
A scaled model to the "fence" would have also been used in the wind tunnel of course.Xwang wrote: ↑14 Dec 2020, 19:35There is one thing that puzzle me.FDD wrote: ↑13 Dec 2020, 13:46https://it.motorsport.com/f1/news/f1-fe ... n=widget-1

They have made this probes setting to minimize the effects that the rear mounted structure has on the flow which is studied trying to align all the surfaces and probes to the "expected" direction of the flow in each point of measure.
But why have they left the six black round bars which seems to impact on the flow a lot? It seems somehow half cooked.
either of them changes would require 2 tokens each, so that's not going to happenryaan2904 wrote: ↑17 Dec 2020, 17:11Chrono Gp says that Mattia Binotto confirmed to them that Ferrari's gonna use their tokens for a gearbox upgrade and a rear suspension upgrade.Sevach wrote: ↑17 Dec 2020, 16:02You can use the gearbox to lenghten or shorten the wheelbase which has great impact on the aero and handling of the car.

Thank you.
As per rule they cannot bring any modification to the "nose" anymore nor to the front suspensions.PlatinumZealot wrote: ↑17 Dec 2020, 18:57How do you know Ferrari haven't already crash tested a slim nose this year?
Lovely. Absolutely lovely.TechF1 wrote: ↑18 Dec 2020, 18:58EDIT: We can open the SF-21 (official name) Speculation thread [/b]PlatinumZealot wrote: ↑17 Dec 2020, 18:57How do you know Ferrari haven't already crash tested a slim nose this year?
You can make the gearbox slimmer, or longer, that opens up space at the back of the engine cover, tail section of the diffuser. Depending on the shape of the gearbox it can aid aero significantly. It's also the second heaviest part of the car.
