Hamilton wants to sign, but has radioed in that he does not believe the pen will make it to the end of his signature.

But then using the same pen he went on to produce 28 more signatures, even setting a fastest signature on signature 26.

Some say it’s innate talent, some say it’s just because he’s got a much better arm than everyone else.

Also I see people arguing that Hamilton is the best marketing value ever and worth every penny of >=50Million. But at the same time it seems to be a well known fact that he doesnt want/like to do promo stuff? Which one is it then? Can't have both.
It's the difference between what others want of him and what he wants for himself. Not that difficult a concept really.
The difference is the important bit though, isn't it? As Jolle said, for example INEOs probably wants to use Hamilton to progressive-wash their portfolio and Hamilton is currently not into that. His talking about image rights sounds partially like a description of the right to choose what he does with his image, not only the right to get money from it.

You and I know that but the post I replied to suggested it was something else.

What did you interpret the post to suggest?

And how does Hamilton's (speculated) refusal to market specific products/companies as requested by his employer not negatively impact his (speculated) marketing value?

You said we can't have it both ways that he has a marketing value but that he wants to decide more of what he markets. You suggest that those positions are contrary. They aren't, of course, it just means that his marketing value is directed in specific areas rather than a broad brush over whatever is thrown at him. He still has massive market value even if he wishes to limit where that is used.

New theory.... :P
Ferrari gets it’s special bonus because it’s Ferrari and Ferrari is F1 and visa versa. Liberty “helped” Renault to sign Alonso. Maybe Mercedes wants in on the special bonuses for Hamilton.

That would cause a halt in Merc — FOM dealings surely. Like the concorde agreement etc. but i dont see hkw such a theory would impact the timeframe of Hamilton-Mercedes. In fact Merc would have an incentive to actually sign him faster

I don't like the smell of Ineos. lead by another British fogurehead who wishes to squash Hamilton down and control him. It would be better if another non-British company hard partnered with Mercedes.

Dunno... Ratcliffe is a bit of a dubious figure but he also knows how stuff works. And is not shy to invest. His deal with Sir Ben Ainslie is also around 150-200 mln dollars. In comparison to that, Toto is giving him a much better deal. Even their cycling team costs them around 50 mln a year, excluding additional marketing.
I think if Ratcliffe would start to push Toto into controlling Hamilton is any way of form, both might just walk.

PZ, Isn't Ratcliff a council estate self made man from working class parents? Similar back story to Hamilton, the two should get on well?

Still doesn't change the ego - lot's of these billionaires started from humble beginings. It's just a suspicion on my part that he wants in, but is coming to change how things are controlled. I have to really see how Ineos brands themselves on social media to see what to respect. I am sensing a boring McLaren-like vibe where the drivers will be reigned in.

Lenny henry always jokes that he started off on a council estate with twenty pounds.
It was good stuff mind.

(If you do not understand, don't ask, I don't want to go there as I really like him)

I guess you mean figurehead? Representative without acutual power?

That would be Lewis Hamilton.

Jim Ratcliffe:
- son of a carpenter
- self made billionaire
- founder of ineos
- richest man of the uk 2018
- paying bills for the F1 team

Sounds like you're just mad, that they wont bend over for HAM's ridiculous contract demands.
