Is that Thomaso walking with him? He'll be DR's race engineer now, I imagine.

From the article referred to

McLaren from this photo, it appears that McLaren is using a laser mapping system to adjust, control and analyze the driver's position inside the cockpit.

It looks like a fix-point solution, similar to that used for the analysis of the biomechanical position in cycling. In this case, the use of this analysis could be used to:

Seat positioning and adjustment,
visibility,
position of mirrors,
convenience / comfort.

The theory is to recreate a sort of laser map around the rider and helmet such as to be able to analyze even the head / arms movements.

Furthermore, if you look carefully at the checkpoints let's call them that, they continue along the lower area of the AirScope, a sign that perhaps this analysis can also be used for something else, perhaps for a 3D mapping of the flow analysis? It is also possible because modern body scanning and 3D scanning techniques are evolving, guaranteeing and allowing the possibility of acquiring more and more precise information and positions.

I thoroughly enjoyed this, makes you appreciate the fine details and margins that go into an F1 car. This was just the seat fitting and they’re looking for near perfection. Driver comfort is obviously very important, Daniel looks pretty neat in blue. =D>
Q: (Stefano Mancini – La Stampa) Kimi, will you help Vettel to win his championship this year?
Kimi Raikkonen: I can only drive one car, obviously.

Audi is my second favorite brand after McLaren so this would be a dream outcome but there is ZERO chance of this happening. There are deep longstanding ties between RB + Audi and also Porsche and McLaren are direct roadcar rivals. If VAG/Audi finally want to enter F1, they are likely to pick up the ex-Honda engine program from RBR and run with it. But given what is happening with electrification of Audi's roadcars and yet seeing them quit Formula E, I don't think Audi is entering F1, ever.
