If your intercooler goes inside the intake, won't it be more harmful since it'll heat up the intake air to a certain extent

Another possibilty is that the plenums are lower wider and biger, with maybe a stronger cross flow... For increased range of the VLIM.
The Aston Martin body works shows the bulge a bit more and the bulge seems to directly a top the engine than i thought before.
They used to have them set quite far back and routed them forward for the inlets. But I guess the ERS cooler pipework proved to win out and cut down the Z height in the rear area. I would be curious to better understand what's going on under the skin of these plenums.
It might also be that Mercedes has something up its sleeve, with what is believed to be a super-cooling system within the inlet plenum for short bursts of extra power.
