Red Bull RB16B

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

@Wouter, all the footage where you base your comment on is from the RB15! (only the pitlane shots are the RB16B)
Is that so? The video says "Onboard of the RB16B". So that isn't true?

Perez said while posting the video, see YT:
Remembering what it was like to take my first few turns in my new car at Silverstone.
One of my favorite tracks and with a car with great potential.
I can't wait any longer to be already testing in Bahrain.
I share this with you, it was a great moment for me.

It’s true. You can see the differences in the mirrors for example. The only RB16B footage is from the pitlane. Rest is RB15. Furthermore, the car isn’t driven to its full potential during a shakedown, so instabilities will not show on the footage they make of this.

You can see from Perez's smooth steering movements in the bends that the car is now much easier to control.
Probably the car at the rear is now much more stable on the track. Perez is very lucky that this has been resolved,
Albon could not cope with the unstable rear, only few drivers can do that.
You can spot the RB16B because it has a square bracket for the wing mirror. The rounded bracket is the RB15.

As much as I’d wish you were right about solved instabilities on the RB16B, this footage is unfortunately all from the RB15.

I made the mistake earlier as well, the cars do look much alike. Apart from 1 photo from the halo, I don’t think we have seen the RB16B at all.

I even think the released photos are the
RB16 from Abu Dhabi 2020 testing (narrow 2021 floor and single column spoiler with waste gates underneath the exhaust)

The release photos still show a different rear suspension arrangement, more like that of the rb15 as well as the updated bargeboards and so on.. maybe the floor shown in the release is an early spec and they are hiding what they actually ran in silverstone for the shakedown. :-k

And you can tell that from a promo filming day. Wow 😳

Let’s just see during testing. I have no doubt they try to iron out some of the instability but to somehow make that assertion after watching this footage is idiotic
First, thank you very much for sending me the link for testing. I appreciate that very much.

Second, maybe you can read my post from this afternoon.

Everyone can make a mistake, I did.
Nice to get a downvote for my mistake calling me pretentious. I hope it wasn't you.

I neutralised that downvote for you. 1. I think whoever downvoted doesn't know what pretentious means and 2. That comment, no matter how wrong, led to a page and a half of discussion. Discussion is why this forum exists.

Thank you very much for your kind reaction. I appreciate that very much @hUirEYExbN !

Btw, I also liked the positive reactions after I made a stupid mistake. All those friendly explanations. Thanks.

You just told me honestly in the forum what you thought of my post, unlike the downvoter.

don't know if already posted:
rb16b's rear end (enhanced light)

for comparison, this was the rb16's :

I was wondering: It looks like on the RB15 you can see from one side of the diffuser to the other under the gearbox, but with the RB16B, it looks like there is a fin that divides right and left. Could a under gearbox divider fin be some kind of effort to solve rear end instability? Especially in (side) windy conditions.
But just suppose it weren't hypothetical.
