The same issue Mercedes had yesterday? They're using Mercedes gearboxes, right?
https://twitter.com/AstonMartinF1/statu ... 5396462592
Aston is using a 2020 Mercedes gearbox.
If Mercedes didn't use tokens(any word on that?) on it so are they.
Which would bring the question why a gearbox that was essentially bulletproof last year is now looking problematic? What was changed "around it"?

Last year they had big issues the first few races at the rear, at the Austrian GP.

Per The Race, Merc is also re-using the 2020 gearbox.

I think it’s natural to wonder, but at this point, it’s not known whether the issues are even the same.

If there are more gearbox issues this afternoon or tomorrow, that would grab my attention.

As to the Hamilton spin, I didn’t see any inherent, unnatural rear-end instability with the car. It was just a poor line turning into a tailwind on heavy fuel, which caused a loss of downforce and subsequent spin.

It can be as simple as a case of bad manufacturing for some reason, it could be the amounts of sand storm conditions, which come to bite them.
hell, for all we know, they can be putting up a show 'sandbagging' their way into 2021 hiding some stuff and making the competition think they're having a real chance.
then Merc miraculously overcome this and are able to sell their mighty technical capabilities and as such sell more cars.
who knows.

1:39’s seems slow. Tsunoda did a similar length stint in the 1:36-1:37’s. Ferrari in for another rough year?

If you actually think that Ferrari is 2 seconds slower than Alpha Tauri, then they’re gonna be dead last.
It’s rather a choice to drive to a delta. For whatever reason.

But I do think the Ferrari here today in Sainz' hands didn't look like the aero got a lot better over the winter (yeah, early days and he's new to the team etc. so nothing to say 'they are dead' but just not looking like it is competing with the Red Bull (Merc we can argue, looked super earlier this morning, though maybe some niggles too, but Red Bull looked solid, not unlike them mostly continuing on from last year).

At the same time, Alpine and McLaren are clearly feeling they can work and get some impressive times on the board - Alpine yesterday seemed very content, and today look good again, and similar for McL. Sure again, testing, fuel etc. but they look confident, so at least the top of the midfield is good. (AM: too early to tell, probably, but not looking like they are nailed for the 1st race yet).

I don’t if anyone has it broken down in this way (might have been already posted, in which case apologies) but by eyeballing you’d say Ferrari engined teams are building up the most mileage. Obviously more cars than Honda or Renault and Mercedes cars struggling, so Ferrari engines seem to be the ones racking up the distance so far (hopefully not a sign of reliable but slow!)

Anyone recorded the live timing ?
I thought I'd do a bit of runs analysis replaying the live timing but it seems the replay isn't available on the F1 app. Anyone could help ? Thanks
Here is all timing data from yesterday:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/ ... sp=sharing

If you have some experience with programming in python you can also have a look at this:
https://github.com/theOehrly/Fast-F1
(My software and how I created the above table)
Wow ! Thanks ever so much
Will today and tomorrow's data be available as well ?
Great job
I should be able to upload it as well, yes.
