Red Bull RB16B

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

A wonderful rear end. They bring everything ( suspension, outlets, gearbox) up to give the diffusor more clean air.

Very smart thinking by Adrian Newey as usual. The upper arms are so high. So much clean open space. They even had to make a large opening in the top knuckle because of its size. The lower arms are also high mounted to the gearbox but they left the connection point to the upright low. Probably for brake duct reasons.

Do you get the same WW1 bi-plane vibe from the wishbones that I'm seeing?

It does look very elegant. If that is fast I don’t know, but it does look it.

So, RBR has 8 of those little vortex creators on the middle (low) part of the diffuser, McL has just 4. McL has used a “trick” to make the two innermost vanes a bit lower to let them start from the inner piece. Reference plane is lower there. RBR has clearly chosen to accept the lower height and place them all 3 directly in the air stream. What would be better? Warrant a guess?

Dirty attempt at comparing McLaren to RBR

Have to say that RBR16B rear is clean. Such nice and clear lines. Great work

Agreed. First time since 2017 that Merc does not look next level compared to main competitor. In fact, I am more impressed by RB.

Compared to the 2019 rear-end (2021 AT02)
This very angled and aligned driveshaft+trackrod shrouded assembly is kinda reminiscent of another infamous Newey car, the FW.16, with its angled beam wing and its shrouded Y-shaped top wishbone+driveshaft ensemble
It's like a fusion of both things :P
