Mercedes W12

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

I'm beginning to think there isn't any such new item. I think they really do have a diva and the floor changes have hit them hard.
If that's the case then they didn't spend any tokens, I find that hard to believe.

Aren't there places for changes under the skin that could have required tokens?

They could have changed the internal components of front or rear suspensions

Not the best quality and not the exact angle, but do we notice anything different?
I don't see anything obviously different.

One thing I do find interesting, is that we haven't (at least I haven't) seen any photos of the rack of front wings/noses that normally sits outside the front of the garage on Thursday!

Don't wanna sound negative but I think there are too many people eating their words now. There wasn't gonna be any miracle package. Only wishful thinking. Seems like they really have DIVA 2.0 in their hands. I just hope it's not a dog, at least 2017 they were able to eventually tame DIVA 1.0.

Replying to my own post LOL
Motorsport website says this: "Single-token components include DRS, clutch systems, brakes, fuel and hydraulic systems and pit stop equipment.

Two tokens will be required by developing any of the survival cell and impact structures, gearbox, driveshaft, inboard front and rear suspension, wheel rims and electrical looms."

So plenty of "under the skin" possibilities I think.

We have spent our tokens, but we won’t reveal how we used them just yet,” he added. “That’ll become clear in good time.

They have literally admitted this and yet people won't ever believe them. I think it will be closer than testing really showed, but they will have issues like they did in 2017 in the beginning of the season. Maybe Red Bull will finally have a good season and we will see a proper title battle, or maybe they have got lucky with the reg changes pretty much not affecting them and they will dominate instead.

We honestly don't know. All we do know is the W12 pictured above is the same from testing.

any signs of the places, where they could spend the tokens?
Not yet!
At this point I'm wondering if they have spent their tokens at all :D
Would be awesome if the did a Haas and bring the upgrades in a later race.

That device appears to directing without setting up a vortex. Presumably the idea is to set up a vortex at the front end with the waffle floor, and then push that vortex outwards in front of the tyre.

The vortex strakes inboard - used by all teams - set up vortices that clean up the flow around the inside face of the tyre. Both devices aimed at improving diffuser efficiency.

I'm surprised Mercedes aren't running the vortex generators others are just before the floor cut starts.

Who knows, they may release some upgrades or new parts tomorrow as part of free practice. Why give your rivals an extra day to copy? :)

They can't. As per the new technical regs, they must show all the components that will be used during the weekend on homologation day, which was today.

That's true. But they don't have to show the media...

Come on, don't you think this is getting ridiculous? There's no miracle package, although we would have wished so.

I was definitely one of the people expecting a visible package/upgrade for this race, but I don’t mind being flat out wrong. It was just speculation and expectation given how secretive Merc were being after the test, social media and all. Maybe the changes are here but they’re not visible (under skin improvements) or maybe they’ve been there since test day 1.

Either way, let’s just see how it pans out. Unless someone here placed a bet on it, I don’t think anyone minds being wrong even if they were “sure”. I certainly don’t.
Human history is the long terrible story of man trying to find something other than God which will make him happy.
