Front of the RW endplates turns inwards... Is this new ??

it's not new though, it was there at Bahrain. AFAIK the only update was the deflectors in front of the rears.

From Bahrain, you can see the leading tips of the RW endplates come inwards slightly:

Yeah, nothing major has been put on the car since testing I would say. At least nothing that is obviously visible.

Yeah but I suspect the engine cover is more just due to the cooler temperatures allowing tighter packaging and not really what you'd call an "update", although Portimão might not be much different.

When the update comes depends on where they want to update, if it is the bargeboards for instance that they want to focus on, it might take a bit longer as it is quite complex. I would guess any changes are going to be related how efficiently the floor is sealed and the diffuser can eject the air so that kind of work might be more than just a quicker update.

I'd have thought that bar that kind of important '21 development work, that they would focus they allotted CFD and wind tunnel time on the 2022 car and so smaller updates might be hard to come by, unless they learn something from the 22 car.

I guess we could see them bring some updates to the track that they test out solely on track though, and not in the tunnel or the simulator, with 3D printing at trackside as per that disastrous season where the wheels were too close to the bargeboards.

So McLaren brought a minor update to Imola(rear wing enplate)....Regardless, we're going into back to back races. It's gonna be hard to have updates for the 2nd race, upates for the first race should benifit both races. So yes I would expect updates. McLaren are usually pretty good about being updates on a regular basis.

And the mapping for electrical deployment, I believe, as the Merc engines needed a tweak.

Will be interesting to see if that will happen. With the CAP in place, there are now financial trade offs for everything for everyone. A few days testing can easily cost a few million dollars. There is always an accident, so costs can escalate quickly. That is like 2% or more of the present CAP.

Definitely testing at race tracks the week after a race like they are doing with the tire tests is more economical. No flight or shipping costs cause everything is already on site. Just need to pay for a few more hotel and food days.

If we ultimately adopt the sprint races, then even in season testing of new parts is going to become tricky.

The two shortened P sessions will largely be for setup and tyre evaluation.

Small win for the team that has flown under the radar... Both Daniel and Lando have done an exceptional job of avoiding any major incidents so far this season, therefore the amount of repairs to the cars have been kept at a minimum and every minute not spent on repairs is a minute potentially invested in car development and updates:
