Regazzoni won the British GP 2 months after the race.

Was 1976 the only time a championship leader has voluntarily pulled out of a race and thus lost the title? (Lauda at Japan in the rain).

Winning being announced after the event isn't particularly unique, as there were 2 of them listed already for this season.

I will say again, this particular thing has never happened since (or before). It is unique to 1976 and to the event in which it happened.

Are you referring to James Hunt's fans getting rowdy after he was "disqualified"?
Not what I'm thinking.

Your clue that it won't happen again for at least a few years suggests that it might have something to do with leap year, but alas, there was no race on February 29 according to Wikipedia.

The only time a 6 wheeled F1 car has won a race was in 1976 at the Swedish GP. Jody Scheckter in the Tyrrell P34.

I think hUirEYExbN said it has never happened since, so can't be the satelite thing. I think we're getting close to giving up on this one

I confess I had to look at some information and what struck me - the longest season - January to October?

Ok, really left field attempt here: Austria '76 - every finisher had a Cosworth DFV. The only none-Cosworth in the race was Pace's Alfa and he retired. Ferrari weren't racing after Lauda's crash in Germany the race before.

Lots of 70s seasons were January to October.
