Unicorns are powered by rainbows and magic though, not powertrains of any description, hybrid or otherwise.

See, this is what idle speculation based on little to no information leads to.

Don't think Andy has the credentials to make such a statement.

No.

Andy Cowell riding a Papaya Unicorn.
 =D>
So I post a very interesting proposal on Electric Powertrain tie ins, and you upvote Andy Cowell on a Papaya Unicorn
Yeah, the Electric Powertrain tie ins proposal didn’t make me spit out my drink though...
Q: (Stefano Mancini – La Stampa) Kimi, will you help Vettel to win his championship this year?

Anyone bet on joint PU development with Redbull for 2025 yet?

So shortly after joining up with Merc? I think it's unlikely, especially given that a) Red Bull Powertrains is still a very unknown quantity, and b) the 2025 engine rules are not finalized.

I'd be really impressed if the actual news is something different than every box that we have checked on this forum over the past couple of days (or really disappointed)

I'm prepared to be disappointed. I think the people reporting on this announcement have different standards for what "seriously cool" means in this context, when most fans seem to expect something paradigm shifting. I also saw one of them say that McLaren encouraged them to hype up Sunday's announcement without giving it away, and there's always the chance they might feel like they won't be invited back if they don't do that.

But I'd love to be wrong!

Imagine if it's just some media joke thing, and they are overhyping it on purpose.

As much as I love Tesla, even wrapped mine orange with Papaya plates. I don't see that happening, they simply have too much going on and I don't think they have finances for projects other than themselves at the moment.

Disregarding the finances, it also seems to me like Tesla should have no interests in Formula 1. It's an electric car company after all. Formula 1 has made no statements about going full-electric any time soon. An investment in McLaren is not inline with the goals of that company. Unless it's just a pure expansion into motorsports and they judged McLaren to be the best platform.

Either way, unlikely I would say.

I’d be disappointed if it’s a LeMans announcement, even if Lando and Daniel are behind the wheel. I’d also be disappointed if it’s a Formula E entry announcement, even though both scenarios are great and all. I don’t think they’d be worth all the hype and media embargo that’s going on. Stuff like that you just announce and get fans excited about it, not build it up.

No way. it could reflect really badly on the McLaren brand and there is no way reputed journalists will do something like that. On the other hand, some of the most reputed journalists (Benson, Saward) haven't said anything so hmmmmm
