They should have just changed almost all the rear end (whatever they can change without any penalty)
How did they miss this?
Why should they have changed everything? No need to do it, if it isn’t damaged and they obviously didn’t think that it was damaged. Which tells me that it’s not a usual thing to happen because it was not the first crash they’ve witnessed in their history after all.

And yet they missed it and cost them a win since mid 2019
And they are going to change their procedure after this, which makes my statement above correct.

Of course they'll update their procedures, but that doesn't mean they're going to change every part in a certain region. Not in times of a budget cap.

Ok then, what do they mean by updating their procedure? could you elaborate as you seem to know more about it.

At a high stakes race like this, when the only thing they need to do was to run the race at 60 to 70% and the win was guaranteed; even a Hass would win this race at Monaco if they were on pole.
But they didnt do that and lost the win by NOT even checking the other side of the car.
Even with budget cap, i am sure they have all the parts with them for this one race win to replace what ever part of on both cars. Its not like they are running on fumes.
But they didnot do it and lost a chance of a sure win. Its a failure by the team.

It was a left rear axle on the car, no?

I know people who race FWD cars who go through an axle or two every other weekend...in the grand scheme of the rest of the F1 car, it's a cheap part.

Do they need to change a PU component due to this crash?

Back on track for a 22 wet tire test.

Ps: It looks to me that the suspension arms got reinforced for those tests.

Maybe a bit? I presume the entire suspension is a bit different.

Just quickly going back to the events to take away from the weekend... without mentioning the time between the end of qualifying to before race start ( and #-o); It'll be interesting to see how Ferrari performs at Budapest and Singapore this year, 2 other tracks that are more downforce orientated and require a good chassis too (Hungary less so, but still holds some relevances).

I guess a fair bit of Ferrari's advantage might've been down to them getting the tyres working correctly compared to Mercedes and Red Bull (though the latter definitely found a chunk of pace on Saturday)... regardless, something to look forward to as the season progresses.

Pains all of us Tifosi though, letting a win slip through our hands like this.

What do you think is the main driver for a biffed-up suspension system?
Higher wheel hub/wheel wight or just because now they could put bigger diameter brake disks that will put more load on the suspension?

I presume the wheel-tire assembly is not that much heavier since that will go against all efforts FIA put into keeping the wheel attached to the car in a crash. My assumption is that with bigger brake disks the car will tend to be less stable under braking so they need to biff-up the suspension unless the team will try some intelligently controlled brake squatting.

I think they are buffing the suspension because these tires are substantially stiffer. The current F1 cars uses the thicker sidewalls of the current tires as part of their suspension/shock dampening.

More unsprung weight, higher shock loadings.

Ferrari has done more on track testing than any other team in this year...be it tire testing or drive on the Italian streets.. this is defentely helping Sainz to get upto speed with lecrec

Other drivers who has changed the teams are not getting this chance which explains why they are still finding difficult to adopt the new car
