Hard tire will start dropping off after 12 or so laps, it'll go half the race distance and maintain pace all the way through with a balance shift towards oversteer. Perhaps taking out a bit of front wing between stints.

A two stop seems to be the faster strategy, a one stop will be tricky to pull off, you'll have to extend the first stint, or bank on a safety car, or some sort of management.

Two stops will let you push hard, the medium tire and soft tire again will be pretty close in terms of durability and pace. The front right will be difficult to keep from overheating towards the end of the lap, meaning that qualifying may be equally fast on both medium and soft tires. What you gain on sector's 1 and 2 with the soft you lose in sector 3 if you can't manage the temperature. Which means you're compromising by driving style and raising tire pressure. Perhaps with the medium allowing lower pressure without overheating the tire the grip level will be roughly the same as the soft.

It's nice to see Alex getting recognized for his part in the team's Monaco success. I've always thought Max and Alex had a similar driving style so Alex probably knew what Max's set up needed to be to get the most out of the package.

Horner gives credit to Albon for Monaco victory

Red Bull Formula 1 team boss Christian Horner has given credit to former driver Alex Albon for his part in the team’s Monaco Grand Prix victory last time out.

Max Verstappen scored his maiden Monaco win and Red Bull’s first since 2018 as he led from start to finish, after polesitter Charles Leclerc failed to start the race following a crash in qualifying, which damaged his Ferrari.

However Verstappen wasn’t overly happy with his RB16B during Thursday’s practice sessions, which led to a raft of set-up changes overnight to dial his car in. Verstappen looked set to take pole away from Leclerc on Saturday, but a red flag scuppered his effort, forcing him to back off in the final sector.

Horner credits Albon – who has remained with the team in a reserve and development role after he was dropped for this season – for those set-up changes as the Anglo-Thai driver was doing simulator work back at Milton Keynes.

“We were not in great shape on Thursday in Monaco and Max was not particularly happy with the car but the work behind the scenes, the work Alex [Albon] has been putting in on the sim, all helped to turn it around for Saturday,” Horner said in his column.

“We made some good set-up changes, got Max and Checo a lot happier with the car and Max was obviously gutted to miss out on pole with the red flag.

“We all went into Saturday evening a little frustrated because we all knew how difficult it would be to overtake, but Ferrari’s misfortune turned into our good fortune and it was important for us to convert the opportunity.”

All cars with a Mercedes engine, including the main team, have installed the second ICE, TC, MGU-H and MGU-K.
Red Bull not yet. Ferrari also has the second engine in it.
Why not RB/Honda??? Tomorrow maybe?

Holding out for a potential reliability fix? I don't think waiting for 1, 2 maybe 3 races longer will make a big performance difference, unless the engine goes boom of course

Maybe they introduce the next one either France or Austria 1. Because the RBR chassis is strong they can turn down the engine during races and be competitive.

Other teams perhaps take more life out of the engine to have they pace they do.

If Red Bull could finish this weekend without any mayor drama in the PU department it will be a big moral and psychic victory for them and a big defeat for Mercedes.

So far, the weekend is going great, and most important for the team, apparently Perez found the balance to the car, which for the championship it’s a good thing.

That’s what I’m thinking too. Honda have been running with a detuned engine since the Bahrain race.

Let’s hope for a reliability fix on spec 2.

Or the RB wing is just a lower DF spec and therefore making it being pushed down less? In Barcelona they ran a pretty high DF package iirc. Now they ran a wing comparable to the Mercedes it flexes nearly identical to that Mercedes wing.

Would be quite amusing if it turns out if Mercedes has to change the RW as well. Not handy with a car that already suffers with the lesser DF rules this year.
