Alpine A521

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Interesting! They look to have gone to a more inboard-loading build for the elements, the previous profile looks to be trying to trade-offa bit of downforce against boosting the Y250 vortex.
Not sure the Y250 is still relevant in 2020 and 2021. It was King before they relaxed the bardgeboad regs. The bardgeboard area and the cape under the nose has made the Y250 obsolete.

They've been making some major changes to the diffuser in 2 steps(2 weekends) plus some floor changes near the back. Then moved forward to the bardgeboards. I think they've made changes now 3 weekends in a row. No surprise really that they've gone back and tweaked the front wing.

Bold statement, because the bargeboards are still a very powerful area of the car. The criticality of the Y250 vortices is exactly why Alpine has developed the wing like this I would think.

I said the bargeboards are very important.

I was wrong about Y250, it's still used to keep the tire wake from coming in towards the middle and effecting the air flow there.

Interesting. I wonder if they are to combat any pivoting of the wing (in order to pass the new tests)?

That would be my thoughts. Budkowski said those where the only updates left.

 Return of the big Engine Cover?
It looks like they're alternating between the engine covers.

Top is Austria (same as Silverstone), bottom is Hungary - probably just more cooling?
