Alonso got good start but on the second straight he got boxed by three cars and end up behind Stroll and that was it, with bad race pace it was over.

The Alpine is just mediocre on the soft tyres. Russell was pressuring Alonso the whole first stint until his issues emerged. I thought medium/hard was the better strategy today, but thanks to the start Alonso at least put himself in a good position. Difficult to overtake if your car is not significantly faster.

Yes Alpine is horrible on soft, only because it was Alonso they scored points today. Alonso somehow manages to handle car better in race trim. i tend to agree with comments someone made that car is actually going backwards , it is just that alonso is improving hence they are managing in top 10

Sainz and Russel both had the tire advantage because of starting outside the top 10. So the deeper into the stint you go the more the advantage slides over to them. They keep thier tire advanatage cause the mediums go deeper and they come out with fresher tires, kind of hard to defend. LeClerc kind of forced himself into that after the collision, he came back out on Hards.

PS - In the silver linning catagory Alpine with Alonzo had the fastest pit stop ... 21.131

This car really is a dog compared to last year.

Only positive is Alonso starting to be back at a good level!
Poor Alonso always driving bad cars, seriously, he is the black cat :D

I don’t know what is possible to improve to save a bit the season.

Next week the tires are going to be softer. So we can expect worse?

On the other hand so did Ocon but the pace wasn’t there.. even with ALO ringing it’s neck and somehow keeping it in the top 10 on a worse strat. What’s baffling is Ferrari had one race like that and now they are back to being on good race pace but Alpine has struggled pretty much all season with this. Makes me wonder if it’s just fundamentally built in to the car.

If they don’t change something then yes.. they have 48 hours to come up with some solutions or it will be more of the same

Understanding of the tyres and how to set up the car to maximise them is the biggest thing that doesn’t really require upgrades. They get an opportunity to test a range of set ups they couldn’t last week at the same track like a test session this week so if they still can’t find anything then..

In short their updates are not working. Looks like as of now updates are like hit and trial not output of a well thought methodology to develop car. They are not able to figure out soft tyres at all. This might impact next year development philosophy as well :(

This team really fizzled after their brief resurgence last year.

What I'll absolutely never get my head around is that they made such a big deal of hiring Davide Brivio, who is an absolute stalwart of MotoGP, when they announced the Alpine rebrand... Only to then effectively subordinate him to Marcin Budkowski, who I don't think was good as a tech chief, let alone a team boss. What a way to squander Brivio.

Why would it impact next year? 18inch vs 13 inch different susp rules no hydraulics

I've not heard that thier upgrades aren't working. I wouldn't be surprised to hear they've had a B-Team working on this years car, While the A-Team has worked on next year's car all along.

If the aero rules where the same, I'd be more worried. The tires, suspension, wheelbase, brakes, aero philosopy, etc.

Naturally though, if the car was doing better , you'd have better feeling for the 2022 package.

The tires look to be left to Alonso and his race team to figure out. Think it's a setup thing.

I am more worried about correlation between wind tunnel model and track. If they are unable to solve their issues and can progress well this year not sure how much trust they can put in next year model. I am not sure what is actually the problem with Alpine but compare to others they have not progressed while Alpha Tauri is improving a lot and even Aston martin has progressed well and on verge of passing alpine.
