If people think RBR are overcommitting to this year, consider the developments and lessons learned last year gave them the leg up they have this year. That is, the experiments carried out on track created a stronger development curve than relying strictly on theoretical models. If the insights and understanding gained from developing on track can carry over to next year, it can help shape the development curve of the new car.

Mercedes isn't stupid though, I'm sure they're up to something.

I think it is not about working on it sooner or with full force. I don't want to underestimate these are. Just I want to say that it is more important to have a better concept a better base under new regulations. If you can not find a good base, working on a bad one is just a waste and working on it longer is just increase of wasting source.
The other part of situation is budget cap. So working on this year's car more by using budget that you can not use next year can give benefits as you mentioned.

This video clearly shows the compromises in set up between Mercedes and Red Bull. By having lower wing levels, Red Bull goes fast on straights, but clearly gets slower in corner entries. Mercedes loses out on straights, but almost makes up for it in corner entries with higher downforce allowing late breaking. Mercedes should stop cribbing about Red Bull's straight line speed.

It seems like all the gain is on corner exit, the RB isn't dusting the Mercedes down the straights. Max is just more on the edge, sacrificing a little on entry but carrying more speed through the corner overall.

Max throttle performance according to the AWS graphic indeed was 99.9 last weekend. I haven’t seen a higher percentage in any of those graphics. That could very well explain it. When asked about the Honda PU you could clearly understand from his reaction the Merc unit is still more powerfull but Honda made big improvements, also to driveability.

RBR have been (or considered themselves) behind Merc on engine power for a while, and have been eeking out the little things to get every drop out of the bucket (such as half a second off pitstop) while Merc have been on the crest of a wave and have probably not bothered with crumbs. Now they seem to have at least an equivalent engine roles are reversed and it will take time for Merc to gather up all the crumbs they have probably brushed off as not worth the effort or expense, and will have to work hard for smaller and smaller gains, but it is the only way they will catch back up.

I look forward to it

RedBull running less front DF? Slightly later braking.
But way more DF in the rear car very stable.

Acceleration is monstrous. It even peels away half way down the straights. Never seen Merc outgunned on the straights like this before.

It's realy the more efficient body downforce that RedBull is known for.

Eh, short memory much? This kind of "advantage" is nothing, imo it barely counts as advantage. Back in 2019 ferrari had like a second on the straights over mercedes and even more against other engines.

Remember these two? This is what "monstrous" looks like.

Verstappen is more about exits and red bull is more softly sprung so he doesn't bounce around on yellow kerbs, that's why it seems it's got more power. It doesn't really. Lower DF setting obviously plays a part here.

I also think in that way. If Redbull has same big wings with team X that means they use higher df settings compared to that X team.

I don't understand we only talk about the rear wings between Merc and RB. Did anybody watched the Mclarens RW last race? Just as big as the Merc one but they were very fast on the straights with Mercedes power.

Being fast at straight is not mean much. I think they used all what merc pu has at first laps and then they had passed by two other car back to back.

Hmm plausible. I actually didnt watch their Quali speeds, but refer to Perez radio when behind Norris.
