The teams have real first hand data now to setup their cars. And they will have more practice time to top it off.
A lot can change for the order this time around. Alpine could be more competitive, so can Ferrari and Torro Rosso.
Mclaren will avoid what happned to Daniel from happening again. Perez may get much closer to Max now with more information on his car's setup.
Mercedes I have no clue what theyre going to try, but I expect them to be sacrifice qualifying pace for race pace, and then try their best to force Redbull into a long first stint.
See. This is why 2021 will probably be the best season in decades....

until we get new tires, just like the last time 8)
I will say that I am now a huge fan of rule stability. Could we get a Formula that can be unchanged, at all, for 5 years?

At least we could guarantee an epic season every fifth year.

I agree with you. Although, this probably happened because Mercedes cut off development too early
IMO these hybrid engines are the worst thing that happened to F1

And the rules didn’t stay unchanged. On of the things that seems to played into RBR’s hand is the floor change. That’s not really a unchanged rule :D

Some convergence happens during change, but its mostly divergent (according to historical performance deltas).

Stability is almost completely convergent, so would eventually lead to closer racing.

Any reason why most teams won't start Q2 on yellows like they did at Paul Ricard?

I can't see any of them wanting to start on C5's. Or is the field too close to make that happen?

Surprised that teams are not running aero rakes behind diffuser to test changed tyre squirt with the prototype tyres. A stronger side wall should change the movement of the side walls (as Pirelli also said) and thus the tyre squirt going into the diffuser.

It's interesting to see how Red Bull and Merc perform on the prototype tyres, because that will be deciding in the championship. So far Red Bull's pace looking good.

They havent done long runs yet.

The new tyres have stiffer side walls, which reduces tyre squirt and turbulence (also one of the objectives of the 18 inch tyres). This helps the diffuser, especially on cars with low rake where the tyre squirt is more powerfully inserted into the diffuser area than on high rake cars (more area to expand, so less of a choke effect, so less pressure differential, so less powerful and lengthy insertion). So aerodynamically this should be a clear advantage for Mercedes and Aston Martin. Mechanically advantage is anyone's guess.
