I actually think it’s the right time to bring Russell into Mercedes for 2022 and beyond. Hamilton will definitely retire on a high as the GOAT if he wins the championship this year and then the one in 2022 (regardless of his 2023 contractual obligations). Russell will be Hamilton’s wingman for 2022 only and then become the team-leader from 2023 on, unless Toto can pry Verstappen from RedBull for 2023 and beyond.Big Tea wrote: ↑01 Aug 2021, 14:39Me too, but we don't know all the ins and outsselvam_e2002 wrote: ↑01 Aug 2021, 03:49He Bottas may staying with Mercedes till Hamilton Retire. TBH unless Russell is a big flop for Mercedes, then I don’t think Verstappen is ever getting a drive there. Especially after the last couple of weeks.wunderkind wrote: ↑01 Aug 2021, 17:57I actually think it’s the right time to bring Russell into Mercedes for 2022 and beyond. Max would be foolish to put all his eggs in Red Bull's basket.El Scorchio wrote: ↑01 Aug 2021, 18:04TBH unless Russell is a big flop for Mercedes, then I don’t think Verstappen is ever getting a drive there. Especially after the last couple of weeks.
If it doesn’t work out with Russell, they’ll do what it takes to get Lando.
Can a team do that, thats an interesting one. if your driver gets a big penalty, replace him and start much further up. interesting.mkay wrote: ↑01 Aug 2021, 18:54Max would be foolish to put all his eggs in Red Bull's basket.El Scorchio wrote: ↑01 Aug 2021, 18:04TBH unless Russell is a big flop for Mercedes, then I don’t think Verstappen is ever getting a drive there. Also, if Toto still plays 5D chess, would be worth putting Russell in the car just for Spa such that Merc avoids the 5-grid penalty.

People in management are not like Internet fans of Hamilton. They look for profitability and whatever it takes to bring together best driver, they would do. Alonso wasn't liked by Ferrari in Schumacher days, but they signed him. He wasn't liked by McLaren after 2007, but they signed him too. So it's never say never.El Scorchio wrote: ↑01 Aug 2021, 18:04TBH unless Russell is a big flop for Mercedes, then I don’t think Verstappen is ever getting a drive there. Bottas would just take his penalty at his next race. It's a driver penalty, not a team penalty.mkay wrote: ↑01 Aug 2021, 18:54Max would be foolish to put all his eggs in Red Bull's basket.El Scorchio wrote: ↑01 Aug 2021, 18:04TBH unless Russell is a big flop for Mercedes, then I don’t think Verstappen is ever getting a drive there. No. Driver penalty is served at the driver's next race.NathanOlder wrote: ↑01 Aug 2021, 19:18Can a team do that, thats an interesting one. if your driver gets a big penalty, replace him and start much further up. interesting.mkay wrote: ↑01 Aug 2021, 18:54Max would be foolish to put all his eggs in Red Bull's basket.El Scorchio wrote: ↑01 Aug 2021, 18:04TBH unless Russell is a big flop for Mercedes, then I don’t think Verstappen is ever getting a drive there.
