Not much to gain from those practice sessions. I don't think either driver looked particularly comfortable with the car in FP2.

Charles' off was unfortunate. He had two offs in that turn complex.

Charles’ crash was bad enough that he needed a new chassis. Yikes.

I’m interested to see what the team does with the setup going into qualifying. To me, it looked like the low downforce setup is leaving them slow in S2 just like last year.

Not a good quali session at all.

I don’t understand why they did their second run on used inters.

Got away with one regarding Lando’s crash although with the pace he showed, he could move through the pack fairly quickly.

It depends on the damage, he's more than likely taking penalties or even a pitlane start. I hope the Ferraris have the race pace to climb into the top 8 that would be a solid haul under these circumstances

This ones a little strange. Ferrari have been good in low speed all year, which lends itself to good wet performance. They were also strong in the wet earlier in the year (imola? I don’t remember). Now suddenly they’re nowhere again in the wet. I had high hopes for today given the rain reduces the power dependency.

Carlos said they couldn’t warm up the fronts. Hopefully if it’s wet for the race, they can get better warm up and do well across the race distance - like turkey last year

Cold temperatures are this car's nemesis on the front axle as we saw in France. At Imola they added downforce in anticipation of the rain and it worked for them, they couldn't do the same here because they lose too much on the straights and when the track dries in the race they'd get swallowed up

Early this year they had too much wear on the front tyres but at the same time, Imola they had a very nice performance in the wet. Also straight out of the box, they switched the tyres on very well fi after a safety car. But after France they tried to re-balance the car for less wear at the front which succeeded but maybe that’s cause why the fronts aren’t getting temperature in now.
Their top speed in qualifying was still higher than the RedBull so maybe they should have simply used more wing and gamble on a fully wet race.
We’ll see this afternoon.

Checo is out, so theoretically with a good start, Ferrari should gain a place. This race is definitely going to be one of attrition. They just need to finish IMO.

Leclerc P8
Sainz P10

Crazy as it sounds, this is really the best result for Ferrari IMO. Only 2.5 points but much better than what they qualified for.

Weak front end issues have been plaguing them since 2019 #-o

Zandvoort seems very similar to Hungary. Very narrow, high energy, medium/high DF, one true overtaking straight. Not much time at full throttle either.

Pirelli is bring the C1/C2/C3 lineup.

Ferrari could be fairly quick here IMO but it could easily be another Hungary where its just decent instead of good.

The front end mechanically has barely changed since 2018

My verdict on FP1/2:

Race pace wasn't great but the quali pace could put them in Merc/RB territory if either driver can hook up at entire Q3 lap. This is what I thought they would look like at Hungary.
