Really Albon never showered himself in glory with his many poor performances - Imola, Turkey just to mention a couple. He did not even score half of the points Verstappen did with a full 2020 season let alone the half season he had the year prior, and only Vettel and Kvyat faired worse in those regards in 2020. Marko just showed him the door, which was only right given their ambitions at the time. It is a brutal business.

I don't rate Perez either. You can look at my posts, I think both Perez and Albon are just decent midfield drivers but just do not have the raw pace to do anything at the top of field, Perez is only slightly better than Albon even the quali data shows it and is often fighting with cars a good 4 or 5 tenths slower. RB should've waited for Bottas-Russell sweepstakes, Bottas has at least proven to have the 1 lap pace to start at the front on a consistent basis, and be a good support driver. Thus he would support RedBull in their abitions to win a WCC once again. The caveat being his mediocre pace in wet conditions ofcourse.

I agree actually. Perez has a good track record of being in a position to capitalize when opportunities arise, but he never impressed against Hülkenberg or Ocon. Still people seem to see something in him.

But Bottas surely isnt the answer either. They don’t need another underperformer.

Maybe Gasly is the one? He was rebuilding and improving himself ever since he returned to Alpha Tauri. He deserves a second chance at Redbull, than put Albon in the Alpha Tauri. Albon needs more time to adapt, in F2 he eventually was as fast as Norris and Russel.

He sold them and last year, bought them again. I think his current F1 portfolio is: 30% of AMG-Mercedes, 5% of Williams and 5% of the parent company of the AM racing team (Aston Martin cars) plus partner of a management firm that has a portfolio of drivers (Russell and Bottas in his Williams days).

Quite fun by the way that Rosberg, Bottas and Russell all had their debut at Williams before moving to Mercedes.

They confirmed Russell to Mercedes’ last year when they (again) gave Bottas a one year deal. This move has been three years in the making.

Feels a bit like Marko’s magic eye for talent is letting them down for quite some time now. They picked up Verstappen when he was already a no-brainer to sign, before that.. Ricciardo a decade ago? And when the have a steady driver (Sainz), they let him go…

I agree. They have another world-class driver in their ranks in Gasly but they jumped the gun on Perez by offering him that contract, perhaps out of respect. Will not be surprised if next year this continues and they promote Gasly mid-season.

Perez could be given the boot of he fails to score in the next two races. Gasly should be given another shot and next year Max won't have the advantage anymore but he still might be quicker.
