I wondered out loud about this elsewhere, but seeing Gio so close to both Ferraris (less than a tenth) makes me wonder if they could be trialling the new spec PU in the Alfas?

Not allowed with the new regulations. No in-season magical upgrades.

I didn't see any reports of him getting a new PU recently. He was just flat out fast today especially in a straightline. Alfa did a good job on the setup.

Yes it is allowed. Ferrari haven't upgraded all of the PU components to 2021. Version

I haven’t seen it either but it seems a bit coincidental to me, given per this article talking about PU usage at Belgium: https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.autosp ... 54329/amp/:

So coming into this weekend it was only the Ferrari customers who still had a third PU to use, Ferrari themselves will be carefully considering whether it’s worth a grid penalty to introduce on their cars at Monza (where it’s worth the most value) so would really benefit from some on track validation, and suddenly the Alfa pops up with a lap which is a massive outlier vs their pace all season? Very coincidental - albeit, again, can’t find anything saying there was a new PU fitted so maybe I’m wrong.

I don't think it is because PU for Alfa Romeo, in Monaco Giovinazzi was 10th in qualy and race, so their car is not so bad, just lack of power, same for SF21

Leclerc looked good, but Sainz was way off pace during that second stint. The lost time was almost entirely in the second sector. Curious to hear why. Ran up against a very fast Alonso on mediums towards the end.

They possibly could've gone with mediums for both cars. Gasly and Alonso looked great on them.

Consequence of the crash maybe? Maybe something on the car is off. 30 seconds behind Leclerc is unbelievable

Had to be. He was losing 0.5 seconds a lap to Leclerc in the second sector alone for most of the second stint. By the end of the race he was around 1 seconds/lap down on Leclerc.

Sainz had problems with the temperature of the tyres for sure, he reported low grip, the reason? we'll know soon with the reports of post-race, but It could be because of the crash if the FP.

By the way, how you see the next race in Monza guys, we looked competitive in almost every circuit unless France.
