Q: (Stefano Mancini – La Stampa) Kimi, will you help Vettel to win his championship this year?
Kimi Raikkonen: I can only drive one car, obviously.
@2018 Singapore Grand Prix drivers press conference.
It was a good practice session… The pace seems to be there to fight for at least the third row (and potentially sneaking into the second row) but the car seems to be have enough there to lead the midfield in Qualy, we just need both drivers to nail their laps…
The T1 chicane is an obvious weak point, but it seems we might have enough in S2 and S3 to eclipse the losses there.
The fact that S2 is strong is the best news… That means the car has still a decent amount of downforce (which will bode well for the race also in terms of tire wear)… The deficit in S1 could just be engine mode
You would expect Mclaren to have a good chance of a podium here - Norris can have a P2 or P3 easily. I think there's 2 to 3 tenths between Mclaren & Mercedes. And that is down to the Upgrades Mercedes brought vs Mclaren (who have brought less ones). The car is not good on street circuits, slow corners, banked corners comparatively but in the straight & through quicker corners is almost as quick as RB or Mercedes (the almost is because of RB & Mercedes had developed otherwise in circuits like this Mclaren can challenge for victory) !
Usually not a bad sign when McLaren are within a smaller delta of the front in FP1 because we know they can make sizeable jumps forward in quali from practice- really hope they do the same today and put together a really strong session to light up Monza on a Friday evening.
