HRT will be lucky to get under 107% let alone out of Q-3.
The new tyres (got the spelling right again) don't have the same gap between the softs and hards as they did last year. The lower teams could gain on the 107% time by using softs while the fastest time setting cars were still running the slower hards.
End result, the 107% time is now effectively at least a second further out of reach.
Either the FIA will need to adjust the rule or expect the lower teams to consistently fail to meet the cutoff.

The car was horrible looking yesterday in FP, looked like it couldn't put the power down and no front end grip what so ever, pretty depressing to think they believe they will last another year in F1, I'm ashamed to say I actually voted for them to make it into Q2 by Germany, they may not even make it to Q1 by then

I think that some of the bad looking in FP was Karthekayan being pathetic- he barely even used full throttle!

I have hope still for the team.

And BTW it couldn't compete in GP2- it doesn't comply with their regulations.

I really don't get why everyone bashes HRT- are they any worse than Minardi really? Whatever anyone says, they're not a joke team- that would be Life or Andrea Moda. For pathetic speed you can't beat Mastercard Lola- they were like 14 seconds off the pace. Correct me if I'm wrong

Id like to see more smaller teams allowed in, but have to pre qualify like they used to. I would love to see qualifying on friday with teams outside the top 10 constructors, MArussia HRT and a handfull of other hopefull teams trying to muscle in on the action. that way with the extra competition they could scrap the 107% rule and just have a 24 max grid.

Im sure there will be a few GP2 teams looking at this thinking, " we could do a better job than HRT"

The 107% rule is there to stop too slow cars from messing races of the others, not to trim the grid to any given number.

Yeah i know, but i think if you had more small teams involved that had to pre qualify, there would be no need to have the 107% rule, as i think HRT's current pace could be beaten by a few teams who would like to join the grid.

OK, so then imagine situation, where there is no 107% rule and three backmarker teams down around 4 seconds from the rest of pack, competing for the final two spots on the grid. No matter which two cars would qualify, they would be still messing races of other, faster teams big time being lapped every 22-25 laps by slowest midfielders and around once in 15 laps by the front runners...

I've got nothing against prequalifying but with something like 107% rule as a part of it.

Since when exactly is Formula One a sport were drivers should not find any difficulties? If you cannot overtake a slower car, make yourself a train driver.

If you are 7% off the pace you would (theoretically) get 14 laps before being overtaken by the leaders.

I am quite sad after seeing HRT strugling through the weekend. I though they could change from last year, but i was wrong. De la Rosa said that, in two or three races they could be on the 107%, and that, in my opinion, is not good

Maybe with hidraulics working they can start working, but what happened today, when Marussia classified, it's a big step back
